No stake in this fight, but the PVI coach stands alone when it comes to stalking kids to come to his program.
Gonzaga dads are super annoying, but their coach is not recruiting as hard as the PVI coach. |
It's ok for Gonzaga dads or prep dads to act up and be annoying because it's the Jesuit way.

As long as they all end up in commercial real estate, it's all good. |
I suspect that this particular weekend is really the only workable weekend for most high school athletes to shift focus to lax for one day. Most football, cross country and soccer seasons ended last Friday or Saturday. Winter sports started on Monday or Tuesday for most schools. The football players need a little time to recover and gear up for the next sports season. The kids I know have wrestling tournaments and hockey activities next weekend, so to have a second lax tournament next weekend would be a logistical challenge for many students. I think basketball teams often have practice the Friday after Thanksgiving and then possibly during that weekend as well. Anyway, unless most laxers play only lax at their schools, I wouldn't conclude that childishness of the events guys is the main reason for not splitting the events. Childish though they may be! |
This is the 2nd year the mad lax high school invitational has been around. My son played in the event last year with his varsisty squad and will be playing in the event tomorrow. I noticed STAB and Calvert Hall played in the Mad lax Tournament last year but chose to play in the Event at McDonogh.
This is the first year the MIAA guys hosted a high school team tournament in the Fall. |
Probably because nobody wants to deal with the Madlax owner. |
Seeing PVI for the first time this fall -- wow, humbling year ahead without the 2015 class they graduated. They have a lot of pretty good players but no outstanding players, and that is the problem. They haven't developed since 9th grade. |
Hill comes here without their top varsity players, splits the rest of their squad into two rosters and still look like the sharpest and most skilled kids on the field. It isn't all b.s. Right now those kids from up north are just better. |
Hill JV 9 - Landon Varsity 6. Welp. |
My two takeaways at Landon so far today are:
The public school to prep school team differences are now small. The better publics are very competitive now with the top preps. The crazy guy is right. The Canadian kids were he best players and Hill brought through the best team today. |
Landon seemed to be rotating several kids throughout their games today.
Hill Academy had their varsity but most committed players stayed home. I was surprised with how strong Churchill looked and Severna Park. Hard to get a read on Fall ball team where the games are two 20 minute running halfs. |
Hill - all were JV and freshmen team players. Their varsity stayed home. Their varsity wouldn't come for this tournament. That team beat team USA U-19s by a wide margin last weekend. I was also surprised at how competitive the public school teams are with the top prep teams. |
They have several outstanding players. You clearly don't know their roster. But they have underachieved related to their talent for years, so criticizing the coach is fair game. |
My son's team wasn't at this tournament, but I see the scores listed. How was Landon in the semifinals if they had lost the pool to Hill Academy?
Also, I see that Madlax made four free agent teams from their pseudo recruiting event on Saturday. Those four teams went 0-12 and were outscored 153-15. Did Madlax actually charge kids to get pummeled like that? Wow. |
PVI right now is about as talented as and is no better than Churchill or Serverna Park. They are on par with the top public school teams in Maryland. |
