lax culture from an insider

Read on the mad lax website tonight there is a HS tournament held at a landon this Sunday.

Tons of good programs appear to be participating in the one day event.

Prep
landon
Gonzaga
Pvi
The Hun School
Severn
bullis
The Hill Academy

Love seeing kids play for their High schools programs where there is more team ball vs playing for their clubs where it' is more individual ball.

There are also some more local and Annapolis area publics attending the event on Sunday and some pick up teams entered as All-Star teams. I too like the concept of the club lacrosse being just a summer thing once they are in high school. Hopefully there can be a new business model to keep kids involved in lacrosse as a supplement to their other seasonal school sports in fall and in winter with box leagues emerging. Summer -- of course some lucky ones will go to preps that offer a lot of summer lacrosse, but hope to also see something replace the scummy club scene from rising 9th grade on.

there is one in Baltimore taking place on Saturday which several of the MIAA schools are participating in.

I love the idea as its putting the power back in HS programs vs greedy club coaches who love to create mass hysteria over the recruiting process.

I wonder what players Hill will bring down this weekend. They entered two teams, Hill Red and Hill White. A fully loaded Hill varsity team would just destroy the other teams at this event on Sunday. I'd expect the teams to be JV players with some varsity kids sprinkled in.

I also noticed Hun is not in the game schedule, and must have dropped out. That is a shame as they would have added a very competitive team to the event.

I like seeing HS events pulling HS kids away from the club events. I also think it is rank childish that the MIAA event guys and this Madlax/Landon event guys could not split these events to two consecutive Sundays instead of one day. That would afford more HS teams a chance to play another event for more reps. I'd also imagine both event coordinators are having a mid fight over which event has the largest college coach turnout, like the club guys do. Hey Cabell, quick, send your photographer over to field #2, we have 18 guys sitting in lawn chairs lined up and we gave all of them baseball caps and college sweats...let's get a picture of this before anyone shows up!" Gotta love the biz side of lacrosse.

Did anyone see Gonzaga is hosting a middle school combine for 6th, 7th and 8th graders in Tyson's corner.

They are testing the kids 40 time, vertical, fastet shot, and 300 yard shuttle.

Seems very odd a HS coach would even care about a 6th or 7th grader times when they haven't even hit puberty.

That is absolutely the most sleazy and pathetic lacrosse related thing I have ever read. Which is really saying something.

Where are all the Gonzaga dads who lambast the PVI coach and his recruiting tactics?

Their comments were fair, but if true, this is incredibly lame.

Agree 100%. The PVI coach is about as subtle as a car salesman on the sidelines of youth games, but this is incredibly sleazy too. It is just disappointing to see Casey drop to this level. He didn't need to.

Received an email today from perfect performance and gonzaga lacrosse about this middle school lacrosse combine.

For all the talk about HS recruiting , this makes a Gonzaga look rather strange.

Really.. You are going to test a kids vertical and at time in 7th grade grade ?

Makes gonzaga coaching staff look pathetic

I guess we need to be careful about what we ask for. Running away from the club sleaze to the prep guys, if this is any indicator, is just running toward more of the same.

I have imagine Perfect Performance reached out to Casey and asked him if he would help spear head this and they are giving him a cut of whatever revenue they bring in.

A middle school lacrosse combine - hosted by the gonzaga coaching staff.

Looks like they are worried the NOVA talent is being sucked away to PVI, Saint Stephens and even O'Connnell.

Gonzaga is getting plenty of talent. They have nothing to worry about.

Advertising that they (Gonzaga) are looking out for great talent? That's gotta be an WCAC violation.

are you serious? you see just as many Gonzaga boosters, alums, coaches at youth tournaments as you do PVI coaches.

I don't care what schools do when it comes to trying to encourage families to apply to their respectful school but don't criticize a particular program when your coach and the boosters are equally as guilty.

We all know the expression....people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.
