Should I move to Florida?

People on the sidelines reading this ridiculous thread, Florida is a lovely place, and it certainly is diverse and was not plague ridden. Crazy climate posters, I recycle, I try to buy second hand, but no, I don’t try to virtue signal or wring my hand any time I use electricity. I however am looking forward to a carbon neutral future, but if I need butter, I will plan to drive to the grocery store in my automobile rather than churn it by hand. If I need to get from point a to point b, I may take a plane or drive. You are unlikely to see me in the fetal position wracked by worry.

I also do NOT plan on going to West Virginia as a stand in for Florida, and would like to award that poster the prize for most ludicrous suggestion on the thread.

Huzzah crazy posters of DCUM! You really came through.

that's great... but then, why do you post here. Are you new to dcum or something?

Also, did you read the responses about tax liability in MD?

I have found that visiting a place on vacation is nothing like living there.

Glad you had a nice time, OP.
Ignore the noise.
We moved to south florida last year after 15 years in DC and it is the best thing that has ever happened to us.
We are vaccinated, kids in school, at the beach daily, enjoying the diversity and culture, and maybe best of all, largely rid of the hyperanxiety and judgment of the DC area.
Good luck to you and whatever choice you make!

No, they are crazy down there. Plus, there's Trump and DeSantis. I'm not sure I even want to visit again.

Exactly. I'd pay twice that to not live in FL

They don’t hate Indians, Asians, Blacks, Gays etc in Florida. They love them.

LOL.. I think like most places, it depends on where.

Big urban areas are blue, and they are fine with diversity and gay people. I would never live in a small town/rural area in most states.

What part of Florida would be appealing for a middle-aged single Black woman? I’m considering a move somewhere after my youngest graduates high school in 2 years. I love the beach.

Can you say where you moved to? We’d like to go to the beach daily!

Yes. Freedom.

+1 I think I’m even done visiting Florida.

I would suggest possibly the St. Petersburg area. It's got the beaches and it's a pretty vibrant area. Plus good airport too.

I have a friend in Florida. They started school 2 weeks ago down there, and her kid's teacher already tested positive for COVID in week 2. So now her kid and all the other kids are close contacts and quarantined at home until they have a COVID negative test. And there's no teacher assigned to virtual learning while the first teacher is sick. They're still sorting that out. Plus they're fighting to get masks required at school, and the parent body is all polarized about that. Not fun.
