I think the MLS Next team has to be the top one. The problem is that I don't see how they can make two teams capable of playing in two top leagues. The merger made sense when they were going to play in one top league. On their own neither club can really put out a competitive set of teams in either ECNL or MLSNext. Combining both clubs would have helped to create one set of competitive teams. But trying to put out two sets of competitive teams, unless they get a lot of talent from outside, is going to be a struggle.

On the boys side, SYC can have a strong MLS and left over talent for another team.

No they can't. SYC has a good 2008 MLS Next team. Their 2003/4 team may be good enough to finish mid table, although that's not a given. The 2005-2007 teams will likely be competing for last place, and will struggle to win games. I don't know about the 2009 team.

And in no case will the players left over be of any significant help in making the ECNL teams stronger, where McLean needs top of the roster players - not more marginal starters/bench players which is what will be left after the MLS Next roster is filled.

SYC 2008s 5 top best players are not from SYC.

Then where are they all from?

Does it matter, as long as they show up? (I'm not an SYC parent, but I can see that this would be annoying if one were - so my "does it matter?" is merely from the perspective of whether or not they can field a team, not whether it's good for the kids on the roster)

I am sure they can field a team. The point is that if they simply put these top kids only on game day rosters, (1) the best kids are not in practice, where most development occurs, (2) other people are getting less PT in games, though at practice all week, and (3) the wins are a little on the fraudulent side of the ledger. Stuff like this catches up with teams and clubs. They should do what they can to put all top players on roster and get them to practice if they do not already intend to do so.

^-- it won't be forever. SYC coaches, for the most part, simply field the fastest kids and those fastest kids get the most playing time. Once those kids aren't the fastest, they won't be played.

It doesn't matter if development is not happening, those kids are like Speedy Gonzalez on the field.

They are good for the moment.

100% what we've experienced. Nothing like seeing the fastest kid on the field never score a goal or create and assist.

Maybe - but that won't last. As other teams develop SYC's results will deteriorate - if your analysis is accurate.

Have these teams started play this season? Can find no information on them.

Saw a couple at VDA Friendlies this past weekend (girls). The Union 06 lost VDA and beat Loudoun. Union 07s won both their games (VDA/Loudoun) and the Union 03/04s did the same thing as 07s.

Bah! Parents are only tossing out a few thousand dollars, so we'll just let the coaches only know the schedules... rest of you scum can just wait. Why upload the schedules when you're perfect coaches are always on top of everything? Silly person, suggesting schedules be out the week of games. As if

It is obvious that you are not at a ECNL club because families know their players schedule.

Wow, Loudoun snooty parent or early morning troll... I said "coaches only know the schedules". Families know because coaches told them. Again, why have a website with a place for "schedules", pass the "schedules" to the coaches, only to NOT post the "schedules". I am an ECNL parent and while I appreciate ECNL at minimum allowing the coaches to know, I would say that posting the schedule the week of games would be a baarrrreeeeee minimum to meet. That's just me I guess. Stupid to think in 2021 schedules would be online. Just crazy talk

Guess that means Union 05 was thumped by VDA 06. Interesting
