Hmm, a pp suggested the same. She's a bit of a strange one, almost no relationship history if I recall and not gainfully employed beyond this nonsense. Whatever her feelings, their relationship sells and she is there for it.

If Amber feels his interest waning, she'll opt out a kid. He's the type that would stay, I think, if there are kids involved. I don't see him ever being free of her, unless she decides she doesn't want him anymore. But how is she going to do better than a nice, good looking engineer?

I don’t understand why he sold his house to pay off her student loans. Why not just help her pay each month, or do a home equity loan?

I didn’t understand that at all! And it was only $20k in student loans, so that’s not too painful to make monthly payments on for a few years before refinancing. But to sell your house and move in to an apt with a roommate? Weird.

Supposedly the debt was his, but who knows what the truth is. Clearly his quality of life went down after the marriage. He does seem to love her, though it isn't easy to see why. Who decides to be a SAH wife pre-kids when the finances are so precarious?

Looks like he disappeared about a year ago, so makes sense they're probably not really together anymore.
