Trump tried to fire Mueller in June.

Or because he knew it would be a really stupid thing to do? Whatever his reasoning, I'm impressed he had it in him.

The man made a career out of firing people. Is it any wonder he would talk about it? Fact: He did not fire him. Nothing else matters related to this discussion. He was not forced not to fire him. He could have fired him if he wanted to. It would have been a serious mistake, but he could have done it.

Exactly. Trump is being accused of a thought crime

The man is bad at firing people. He's known to be terrible at it. McGahn seems to have known this, too.

But generally, yes, attempt is considered to be just as bad as the crime.

You might want to review the law on this subject. Oh, and the facts are not in your favor. Don, the Doughboy ORDERED McGahn to fire Mueller. Thought Crime? Only on Fox News.

tI's a federal crime to "attempt" to "corruptly persuade" someone to "influence" (or even "delay") his testimony. 18 USC 1512(b)(1). You don't have to shut down an investigation to obstruct it.

No, he gave the order. That’s like, say, ordering a hit on someone. Still a crime.

I thought We All went over this with the Comey firing. Supporters were going on about “but did the investigation actually stall/change?” etc. Bad news: doesn’t matter. I suggest some further research into the law.

The silence from the GOP on this is deafening and telling.

The same can be said with Comey’s firing. The AG/DAG wrote a memo about why Comey was fired. No one can dispute the facts laid out in the memo against the memo. But but Trump thought about Russia. In Leslie Holt’s interview, if you read it in its entirety, Trump said knowing he would get accused about Russia politically, he still did it because Comey is bad for the FBI. Knowing what we know now, Comey absolutely deserves to be fired.

The AD/DAG wrote two memos and Mueller has both of them. Further, Stephen Miller wrote a draft which outlines the President's thinking on this. It was sent to the DAG and Mueller has it as well.

It is pretty clear from what Miller sent and what Trump has said to Holt EXACTLY what was in Trump's mind when he fired Comey.

If you are thinking about firing an employee, should you be fired for considering it?
If you are thinking about speeding, should you get a ticket for contemplating it?

Looks like there are a bunch of FBI agents going to jail. Ditto Clinton and Obama.
