Hillary and Trump were both hawks.

Duh.

Americans are paying attention right now. They want a permanent DACA resolution, they want CHIP funded for at least 6 if not 10 years (saves $6B over ten years to fund it now) and they want the nonsense to stop. The GOP are fully in control and could do all of this yesterday, but they aren't.

No way the dems get blamed for this.

The dems are big idiots, they can't accept that the republicans are I the drivers seat and can use DACA ad leverage to get whay they want with immigration. Good job pandering to illegals, demz!

Apparently invaders are more important than the American people.

There is bipartisan support for a permanent DACA fix, to fund CHIP & our military. Trump, McConnell & Ryan are thwarting a majority in Congress & an even larger majority in America. And all the while making their own positions even more tenuous with tsunami coming.

And no I don’t particularly care that they were brought as kids etc. But even if we were to work it out for them, now they want protections for their parents. GTFO. Why not protections for all their illegal aunts and 75 cousins each as well?

THIS. While I'm sympathetic to the plight of the Dreamers, and I hope that something is worked out to enable them to legally stay in the country, that's as far as my patience goes. Enough. And the aggressive way they're demanding to stay here is pretty off-putting. Stunts like this one, for instance, aren't doing them any favors.

Totally agree. I find this heckling infuriating.

Someone upthread (I can't find it now) said the priority is the DACA kids. OMG. Don't these liberals ever learn? The priority is beefing up border security so we can enforce the law.

The Democrats are holding the American worker hostage in order to reward families who came here illegally. Period.

Can someone explain this logic?

McConnell and ryan's logic?

Nope, cannot understand it at all, other than to be punitive assholes.

Do you know why DACA is an issue today? Because the GOP was never once willing to put it to the floor for a vote, so no.

Exactly. The GOP as a whole hasn't acted in good faith on this issue at any point along the way. Dems would be fools to believe that if they pass this resolution the GOP will start negotiating sincerely on DACA.

After all, Susan Collins is still waiting on Obamacare stabilization, and the GOP isn't even pretending to keep their word on that one.

There is a viable proposal for dealing with DACA but it needs funding for the wall/enhanced border security, limiting chain migration, and cutting back on the number of new immigrants by limiting to a merit based system without regard to country of origin. If these are part of the legislation the DACA kids can be given right of residence and a pathway to citizenship.

So DACA beneficiaries are just pawns to achieve other ends. Got it.

DACA beneficiaries are getting a break if legislation passes. What is required is to take measures to minimize the likelihood of it happening again.

So punish the DACA beneficiaries for things other people might do in the future.

How very... something... of you.

Bizarre reasoning ........

You know they're human beings, right? Human beings who are innocent victims in this? They're not things, they're not trash, they're actual human beings, just like you, with just as much inherent value as you have.

And the people who are immigrating here legally and in so many cases have been stuck in the legal immigration line for 15 years or more without any idea of whether they'll get a green card in the end are human beings too. Why are you prioritizing those whose families broke the law? Do you extend the same consideration to children of Americans whose parents have committed a crime, however puny, and have to go to jail? This double standard is a cruel joke.

True that! Signed many-generation American.

Nobody waits that long, unless they are parents or adult children of immigrants. Are you for chain migration now?

Of course they do. I have Indian friends who've been here since 2002 on work visas. Their green card application had to be restarted by a new employer when his company decided to transfer operations abroad. If I remember correctly, the last I checked a couple of months ago, CIS was up to processing 2008 applications, and theirs was refiled in 2011 or something like that. Natives who think legal immigration is a walk in the park don't have a clue.

Like obama closing the national parks? I’ll take these odds, even with the lying media arrayed against us in all their Josef goebbels glory. Let’s shut it down. For a long damn time.

Guffaw...demonizes "lying media." Refers to Joseph Goebbels. Doesn't see the irony.

You’re so uninformed. Border security is fine. Most undocumented workers do not cross the border, they overstay tourist visas. Stop watching Fox PR channel and get some real knowledge. The Democrats are trying to have a functioning government and address real issues, not just giving rich people a massive tax break.

This is true! Most Americans are morons about immigration! They have no clue and just spout alt right propaganda on immigration. It is a long process. It took my husband 5 years and his family was sponsored by a multinational company here in the US.

Trump won’t do anything but deport them. He has completely ignited the bigots in the US. He painted himself into a corner.

This is too many steps for Trumpsters to comprehend, but it’s a nice summary for triple digit IQs.

So wait, Trump and the GOP are shutting down the government because they want US taxpayers to pay for a wall that Mexico was supposed to pay for?
