No one is concerned with diverse colleges because your child is not forced into close quarters with other kids with major behavioral/violent behaviors like in high school. I went to a terrible magnet high school and would never subject my children to that. However, I would have no issue with my children attending community college or directional state university. |
| Diverse in no way means dangerous or violent. Nice try PP! |
| Holy cow Batman! Majority black high schools with GS9 plus ratings. |
|
Look in DC blacks and hispanics are dumber on average
you happy end thread ps diversity is a crock |
Again, the thread is about sacrificing education for diversity. We are not talking about the private schools with diplomat children. |
|
PP, they are not worried about you. They are worried about their kid being stabbed by one of your fellow savages. Sadly, this is reality for ALL kids going to most inner city school. The stats about "your kind" and how they disproportionately commit violent crimes and drop out of school are staggering. |
| Oh no you didn't! |

I am AA with biracial AA and Asian kids.
We consider such matters on a scale. We would not send our kids to any school that lacked diversity because social emotional development is important. And seeing themselves reflected in the makeup of a student body and teaching staff is important to their self esteem. Nor would we send our kids to a low performing school purely for diversity's sake. Getting the best education possible is important to their intellectual growth and ability to reach their full potential. We're fortunate in that we have options on this front (a diverse private as opposed to our well meaning, but struggling and diverse public). But not everyone has that choice. I respect those that are forced to have to make these tough choices and find balance in other ways. |

My DC has is on the wait list for a private preschool that has 60% of their seats set aside for low income kids. He's been on this list since last year and they recently told me that he won't be able to get in as of this Sept. The school is both racially and economically diverse with a high number of ESL kids. I am happy to pay the expensive tuition to get my kid a spot in this school.

you have a liberal disorder
by the time your kid reaches fifth you will be out of DC unless you hit the charter lottery you have no idea how naive you are |
I would like to take a time out from this fraught discussion to congratulate you on the proper use of "begging the question." I realize most grammar posts are about grammar failures, but I think those of us who love the English language can all stand up and applaud seeing that rare correct application of the phrase. |
lol I'm in McLean and a conservative. Never voted for a democrat in my life (some independents tho). I'm not the only one who sees the value in his school hence the long waiting list. |
This 1,000 times. |
I didn't re-read my post, but you can do both. I'm also not trying to say that you are a bad person for seeking out diversity. I just see my liberal family members do this stuff all the time and it is so disingenuous. It is the cool thing to do. They are no more open minded than my conservative friends. If anything, they are so obsessed with how someone looks that I sometimes don't know what to think. Building a health clinic in Malawi? LOL. That's a perfect example. It sounds like a trip that a bunch of snobs like Angelina Jolie would take. I'm sure they have a tribal outing by the fire pit and then you get to socialize with the natives LOLOLOL These trips are made for people who want to have a "cultural" experience that they can brag about to their friends. People learn a lot more by having a REAL experience, one that often requires getting out of your comfort zone. |
