Please post McMansion pictures here!

This thread is interesting to me, what different things we each mean when we use the term McMansion.

I can't figure out how to post the picture. I think this is the mother of all McMansions. Its on a tiny lot right on a major intersection.
you are right - that one is the worst, and the interior pix make me wonder just how ostentatious and self-important the original owner was.

Yes, 10:42 is on Rosedale Ave in East Bethesda. Sadly they are all over the neighborhood now.

+1. I don't have photos, but when I hear the word "McMansion," I think of Avenel. The word (the play on McDonald's) implies mass production.

This entire neighborhood.

Those are new $4 million homes - they don't even build out to allowable build out size. Not McMansions though we can't see what is adjacent

Pershing Drive in Arlington. Same guy built both. I think he's a restaurant owner and lives in the white one. His neighbors objected to the McMansion construction, so he bought them out and built the brick/stone facade monstrosity next door. My soul weeps every time I drive by these two.

Can one of the defenders of these homes explain to me why the huge expanse of siding on the side has so few windows in it?

It's not clear that this much thought went into this one, but in some cases the unequal window distribution is caused by the builder trying to meet energy efficiency standards. Only a certain percentage of the building envelope can be comprised of windows. If you have huge windows on the front of the house, you have to eliminate them elsewhere.

No no no that is a "snout house" not a mcmansion. It's nowhere near large enough to be a mcmansion.

That is a true mcmansion. Ugly architecture and looming over the neighbors.

I'm technology challenged and don't know how to post a pic, but there is a house on the corner of Sherwood Forest Drive and Randolph Rd in Silver Spring/Colesville 20904 that is a ridiculous monstrosity. I drive by it every day and wonder how many people actually live in ths house. This one is a McMansion for sure!

Here's a tip: If it's advertised on a highway billboard, it's a McMansion.

Oh, I know the one you mean! That thing is hideous. It was for sale a while ago, and I remember looking at the interior pics--it was jsut as badon the inside as the outside.

Had never hear of a "snout house" before. That's hysterical.

I recall a thread about a proposed McMansion in Cleveland Park. I can't locate it, perhaps Jeff deleted it, but the architectural drawings sketch out quite well the notion of McMansion.
