At our school it is all over the place. Many students choose the school that gives them the best scholarship. The top students often go full ride to lower ranked colleges. Some classmates with lower stats will go to higher ranked schools but with lower merit awards. |
At a small school how many can possibly be in the top 5%? Do you have a massive grade inflation? At our private 40% of the class is going T20, with another 10-15 at those in the T20-T25. No grade inflation (deflation actual). No GPA published in transcript. |
At a private high school kids are going for full ride scholarships? |
Similar except swap Stanford and Chicago and add Northwestern to the 2nd group. |
I agree. Chicago is not for top decile but Stanford is. Duke is mainly for connected or rich students at our private. |

How do you all know so much about the intimate details of your kid’s classmates and their college applications. It’s scary. It really is. |
Stop trying to make fetch happen. |
Yeah, I can tell you where people from my kid's school are going, but even their best friends' profiles are a mystery to me. I can tell you "these kids are in the highest-level math class with my kid, and they're going to Chicago, Wellesley, W&M, Harvey Mudd", but I have no idea what their grades are like. I know some of the ECs that some kids have, and know a few of my kid's friends who have an afternoon/weekend job, but — even as an involved parent — there's no way I have a comprehensive view into what these students are bringing to the table. |
Everything about this cries WHACK |
our the private school my kid just graduated from, the kids actually edited each others essays. my kid was in SCEA and still spend his xmas break reworking essays for other kids. they know a lot. |
what is HACK? |
That's a lot of trust...I could see this kind of endeavor going awry at much more cutthroat schools. |
Makes sense to me. |
HACK is a new one on me. |
