“Well documented” you mean one Reddit post that doesn’t even say quite the same thing that you’re suggesting. Lolz. |
Conjecture is generous. Half of these people seem to just be making things up. And then getting very angry about it. |
| Would you consider U Chicago for a very smart and social boy? Intellectual, but an extrovert that likes sports (playing and watching) and parties. |
| You apply to a school. You write the essays. You pay the fees. They call to offer you admission... and somehow you want them to beg? Why? They have already put a ton of hours into reviewing and discussing your application. They have other people to call if you aren't interested. Waiting for you to decide means their other pre-qualified candidates will move on. You sound self important |
I get they need to move quickly. They could do that in many ways. They could issue an exploding offer (must be accepted in 24 hours or we move on). Not issuing the offer until AFTER the commitment is a way to increase their yield. This particular method seems unexceptional to me though -- inoffensive. |
The waitlist of T10 schools gave us 2 weeks to decide last year. |
|
Georgetown gave us 48 hours!!!
Every school is different, he was so happy to get off the WL. |
This. Ppl should be thrilled to get off the waitlist. Otherwise, if there is no genuine intention of attending the school, remove ur name and allow another student the opportunity. |
WL is fine but deferring students who applied in EA and asking them to shift to ED2 is not good. They can remove EA and RD for all I care and have an endless cycle of EDs. Just be transparent about it so that students clearly know what to expect. |
Other universities send emails asking applicants would like to switch to ED2. Then the student has a choice to make. No one is forcing the student which was the term used above. |
Since all of this is very well documented, I think it is fair to assume that students (and more importantly- their parents) clearly know what to expect. There are countless pages bashing UChicago on this very topic on this forum alone. If you believe that they only admit in ED rounds -- why bother applying EA/RD? Get your facts straight and make a decision that makes sense for you and your child. Nobody has been banned from google. |
Yes. This is my kid. Well, except for the sports part. But his friends are quite a mix that includes kids who play sports for the college. |
+1 |
Students who applied EA have already deferred themselves. You are twisting yourself into pretzels trying to have it both ways. You want to get multiple admissions and, maybe, compare FA offers. You're treating this like job offers where you can play two companies off of each other to get the best deal for yourself. But college admissions don't work that way. |
I have no idea what you mean by that. What do you mean by “ Students who applied EA have already deferred themselves”? Also there is nothing wrong in wanting to compare the admission offers when the student needs some financial aid. |
