Dumb mistakes appear to be a leading cause of traffic deaths |
The main point of bike lanes is to give people a place to bike. I’m all for gathering evidence but we don’t need to be paralyzed. |
You are a leading practitioner of evidence free thinking. There are ample studies out there - from all sorts of places - that provides you with the evidence you claim to seek. You just choose to ignore it because it contradicts your deeply-held prejudices. |
Dumb mistakes appear to be a leading cause of your worldview. |
+1. That's why the traffic calmers don't like people to see these stats. |
| I see bicyclists and pedestrians violating road rules all the time, creating dangerous situations and slowing all traffic. When they are held accountable, I will be more amenable to traffice calming measures. |
I have done this. The right turn on red drivers don't seem to care if I have a walk sign. |
I never have any problems with drivers. It's the bike riders who are a menace. |
Additionally, while you can't show causality, VMT is still down in the District compared to 2019. A lot of new bike infrastructure got rolled out since then. So it is statistically possible bike infrastructure contributed to that decline, but the Covid/WFH impact is so large its hard to tell. That drivers are freaking out in objectively better traffic than 5 years ago, is pretty alarming. I think they really just got used to extremely light traffic with no enforcement, and now anything else feels like "oppression." |
I'm all for increasing enforcement of vehicles, bicycles, scooters and pedestrians to keep traffic flowing. |
And if I lived in a velodrome - as you apparently do - I would probably feel the same. |
I agree. At least one thing that’s “wrong with people here” is the large number of transplants who moved in over the last 20 years or so, who treat the city more like a playground than a long term home. They really don’t care. |
Feel free to keep citing these “stats”, preferably in public meetings. Doing so is a very effective way of signaling to everyone else that you lack both basic reasoning skills and basic knowledge of the subject matter. |
What accountability has been faced by the drivers who killed Nina Larson and Patricia Bullinger? |
Time to start pulling over drivers for bad behavior. May as well check under the seats and in glove compartments as long as they're sitting there. C |
