Hayfield won?

Yes, 28 Hayfield- 0 Dunbar

Dunbar's football teams are usually really good, right?

Yes.

They have time to post hundreds of photos from their scrimmages and practices (??) on their page, but can't bother to post a roster. Totally, completely normal. Nothing to see here

Are the canceling the season? Just varsity, or all of it?

SO many kids transferred from the HS in Prince William to Hayfield that they can barely field a team.

"out of safety concerns due to a young and inexperienced roster..."

Some interesting stats in the Inside Nova article.
They can only field a Varsity team, no JV. Only ONE returning senior.

Based on this year's most current roster, Freedom has 45 players. Of that total, the Eagles only have eight players back from last season, all of whom have little to no varsity playing experience. Only one is a senior. Overall, Freedom lists five seniors on its 2024 roster.

All of Freedom's returning starters and key up-and-comers, meanwhile, transferred from Freedom to attend other schools, including Hayfield.

In comparing this year’s roster to the 2023 roster used for the state final, 28 of the 36 potential returning players are no longer playing for Freedom.

Its actually a lot worse than anyone even thought. 28 kids who should be returning to play for Freedom have mysteriously disappeared.

You will find them on the football field on Thursday night wearing Hayfield jerseys.

In my experience as the parent of a high school football player (not for any of the schools mentioned in this thread, though) that is typical. Scores for scrimmages do NOT count so typically it's not officially posted anywhere.

So Hayfield is ranked 8th in the state for Football teams.

Isn't that great! They bring in kids from another county to up their rank. Something needs to be fixed here.

And hayfield is usually mediocre.

Max preps has the rosters posted. You can find Freedom's from last season too. There is definitely some overlap between the teams, and lots of numbers doubled up with 2 players sharing the same numbers, such as two #1s.

If they are saying nothing untoward is happening, then FCPS is gaslighting.

Why would two players have the same number?

The only thing that makes sense is that the kids coming from Freedom to Hayfield got to keep their numbers, but actual Hayfield students also had the numbers.

Scroll through the roster. Lots of players have duplicate numbers.
