ECNL moving to school year not calendar

Funny how redshirting wasn't an issue when the calendar aligned with the school year calendar.

Redshirting still won't be an issue. Are you clueless?

If your kid is good enough to be serious college prospect through soccer, then this thread is just for reading insecurities, paranoia and conspiracy theories.

HS soccer has nothing to do with College Recruiting.

College scout/coach only care about if you're good enough for what they're looking for and what's your graduation year.
People serious about playing soccer in college have already provided the graduation year of their DC information to the colleges of interest.

If you want your baby to play with their friends till they're 30 years old, plan play-dates.

Ummm. You just described calendar year for college recruiting. Older for your grade but HS graduation year the same as the kids that are younger because they started school on time. A kid 17 August before college vs a redshirted kid 18 August before college. Physically and developmentally- and often maturity worlds different.

Isn't someone always the oldest and someone the youngest separated by 11 months regardless of cutoff date?

If your kid isn't exceptional enough against kids just a couple months older, then they are not a prospect for college soccer anyway.
At least not at the strong programs.

Agreed, someone is always the oldest, so moving to school year solves 99% of trapped problem and introduces no new ones. And now MLS teams can use their bioband kids in tournaments as long as they were born in the back part of the year. And rec programs already on school year can also join tournaments with their entire team.

A MLS Next team can only have a maximum of 3 bioband kids.
They are the true elite league and don't need to make adjustments to suit ecnl

Especially since the USYNT players all come from MLS Next

Yes, MLS Next already make a loophole or exception to strict calendar year aging with their version of biobanding so their teams can take advantage things in league play. If ECNL moves to school year vs calendar year, it is really just keeping up the Joneses.

The amount of gaslighting from parents who are not currently impacted by trapped player phenomena is enlightening

Fixing the trapped player problem for Aug-December players by moving to grad year does NOT create a trapped player problem for other players born in other months— so what’s your beef in solving a problem that doesn’t affect your player one bit (other than they now your player has to play with other kids who are in their same recruiting year).

The trapped player issue is a ridiculous problem that wasn’t well considered when this whole drama unfolded 10 years ago which is why they had to slap together Band aid solutions for 8th and 12th graders.

It’s about time they fix it especially since fixing it does not create the same problem for other month players. It just gets rid of it once and for all.

+1 ...yet another gaslighting parent without a trapped player. We really don't care what you think as this problem is irrelevant to you .

Yep. My kid got fk at 10 and is now 18. Trapped sucked for recruiting and team graduating before him. Caused a host of issues.

Figures now they turn it back.

does this change apply to ECNL-RL too?
