If you are looking for rec soccer, I am sure GFR has a level for you and your kid. If you are looking for serious travel, there is no one better than the DMC leadership. I watched NM and the team at TF take serious and dedicated players with development needs and provide such players with the platform to grow as players. If you are looking for someone to help your kid develop a strong first touch, you don't understand the role of a club coach, especially one coaching elite players. If your player is willing to do their personal work, they can excel under the DMV crew. I watched NM and the DMV team take multiple groups of dedicated and driven players and over four or five years, turn those players into DI/D3 talent and the team into an elite team at the national level. Have experience with other elite clubs in the area.

Why did NM need SYC to prop up Union? NM is a great recruiter. Not a coach. ML is a nice person.

keep in mind the DMV teams in EDP are not the same as the McLean ECNL teams. There is an ocean of difference.
Herndon cut ties with Total Foot and NM when they wanted coaches to report to Herndon and not have apparent conflicts.
How can one feel good about a coach who coaches multiple teams at different levels and clubs all within the same age group, provides side training, and that pay to play isnt what is the dominant decision driver? Apparently Herndon did not like it.
does GFR XD say yes to anyone that gets numbers up?: yes NVU play under our NCSl umbrella, yes Inter Milan play under our NCSL unbrella, yes Metro United play on our fields, yes Deportivo do a camp, yes GD run Super Y, yes GD run futsal, yes parent coaches you can run your own NCSL team, yes, yes, yes so long as you pay. DMV got 9 teams? yes you can be under our umbrella? can swap you in as TD to cover the revenue stuff? It is all a bit of a mess and GFR cannot be accused of overcommunication.
One wonders whether the XD runs any of this by a Board or just does everything on own.

Thank you Rado for your opinions. The way you write, you might as well just sign your name.

You miss the point. A father who coaches D1 soccer and coached his daughter thru u15, had the opportunity to pick any coach/club in the DMV and picked NM/McLean. Not sure how much of an endorsement you need. Also, I have watched plenty of committed players who developed elsewhere who left elite clubs to join NM/McLean their final year because the environment and training is superior to other places.

From my experience, NM is great at offering opportunities to play at various levels. If your kid is driven and will work on personal development (first touch, striking, etc.) they will have plenty of opportunities to play at a high level.

Unfortunately you need to take private training with NM on the side to get the preferential treatment as discussed above. NOBODY wants to play for NM in the area because this VERY well known. It’s why players left the 09 team. That team has more politics than any in the area, ECNL, GA, or EDP. NM only wants your money, but hey, you at least get something in return…

Comments like this are why you should never trust anything on this site. I was one of the many parents that followed him from MD. Me and other parents have asked to pay for private training with him for the last 10 years and he has refused to ever take a penny.
While that is a huge lie, I doubt anyone really believed it anyway cause they also said nobody wants to play for NM. Now that is just funny.

How does GFR have so many extra fields to cover all these extra teams?

I heard there is some sort of private training going on but maybe you are right.

Please don’t act like NM is against taking money though. In the next couple of months, GFR parents will open their emails up to see an invitation to TF summer overnight camps. Most of them haven’t seen this before so their excitement will be understandable.

They will be requesting an offensive amount of money for a two day camp.

So are you saying you never played Futsal with him outside of McLean/Union? Maybe post was referring to DMV stuff, I don’t know. I know the 09 team is a mess as well but it’s more than just NM that is the issue with that year. The 08s are a mess as well but that has nothing to do with NM.

Probably just avoid the 09s.

First, I try to leave the names of players out of the discussion. The reality is that said player played HS in the Fall and joined Mclean after the season and played until Covid. Sat next to parents at a game and also knew the coach she left at previous club. She left previous club for better training environment.

The overnight practice? This is a joke of a camp, come practice with the same coaches you’ll be working with during the season and pay $700-$800 for the “opportunity” and don’t forget D1 and NWSL players have participated in this camp and is a big reason why they’re where they are.

Or you could pay $400 and go to UVA, UNC, MD, etc.

And if you don’t go to the camp, they have a nice spot down at the end of the bench regardless of skill…

My daughter couldn’t go to camp one year because of covid and one year because we had a vacation. She wanted to go but guess what she still played most of the games. If your daughter was at the end of the bench, it was probably because she wasn’t good. But yeah sure, blame the optional camp that my daughter and her teammates enjoyed every year.
Numerous teammates that didn’t have the financial means, came to camp for free.

That is not true at all. My daughter played for DMV and Herndon before that, couldn't make the camp and it never changed her playing time. I never felt pressure to do the camp, which is as much a bonding activity/fun event, as it is soccer training. Give it a rest with the NM bashing.

But they promote it as a soccer camp.

Do you think parents are so incompetent that they need NM to choose ‘fun activities’ for their children? Is he now an event planner? My son is getting married….

You lack the perspective because your daughter played for Herndon and DMV. Nothing wrong with playing for those clubs but your furthest away trip was down the street to play the Reston Warriors. Other ECNL families travel to South Carolina to play a single game vs CESA before traveling back home.

After doing that for 8 months who wants to get hit over the head for another thousand bucks?
