Harvard of South - Emory, Duke, Rice or Vanderbilt?

Duke>Rice=Vanderbilt=Emory
Duke is the only T10.

5. UVA, UNC
7. GT, UT Austin, W&L
10. Davidson

U Rochester, Wake, and Lehigh are all worse than these schools, comparing them to Emory is absurd.

What outcomes out of Vandy are better than Emory and Rice? Rice has tech placement and Emory has finance placement so what does Vandy have?

agree Rice equals Vandy, but both of them are a tier or two above Emory, which is more in the Lehigh / Rochester / Wake tier. All great schools, in second 20 tier

This is way off. Emory is ranked #24 and Vanderbilt #18 and Rice #17. They are all very closely ranked/same level/tier. Meanwhile Lehigh, Rochester, and Wake are all ranked #47. No, rankings aren’t everything but if you look at other numbers like stats for incoming students and outcomes for grads, Emory is a peer w Rice and Vanderbilt, and Lehigh, Rochester, and Wake are several levels/tiers below them.

It is pointless to try to rank US colleges. The sooner people realize this the happier and better adjusted our children will be.

I think these are all good schools so rankings don’t matter that much. You can get a great education and have good post grad options at any of these places. However, it’s also stupid to claim that they’re all the same in terms of numbers, which is what rankings are based on.

The rankings are stupid because the numbers don't really mean much when it comes to the education offered.

Princeton is the Harvard of the South. I know it's in NJ but culturally it feels more Southern than Emory or Rice.

UF has been the Harvard of the south for decades.

That’s fine but it is also true that there is more prestige attached to higher ranked schools and higher ranked schools will (typically) therefore open more doors bc employers and others you encounter know they are great schools whereas a lesser known school could give you a great education but if people have never heard of the school, it’s not as helpful for post grad options.

Generally, yes, but Princeton has been number 1 for years in USNWR and it is not more prestigious than Harvard (or Stanford, MIT, and Yale).

Listen, the question everyone should be asking is "what is the Northeastern (NEU) of the South." Everyone knows it's acceptance rate is lower than Harvard making it much more selective and therefore better in every way, including it's location in Boston. It is quite possibly the most selective and therefore most prestigious university in the world. Quite possible that it will have an acceptance rate in the .5% - -1% range by 2027.
