Srsly? Schwimmer was such a ham, character had no nuance. Matthew P created the only character that had a genuine arc of growth.

What? The guy that played Ross one of the most insufferable characters on TV? 😂

The writers had a little something to do with that too.

But the fact they haven't issued a statement ti me means they are so in shock and processing. Also their relationship with him must have been so special for them to take the time to do this much like family would. It's the really quick postings to me that seem like it's a reaction - not insincere but it's easy to post a reaction. When someone is super close to you either you're grieving or you aren't ready to verbalize to public yet. I know if one of my close friends died tragically in an accident and we had mutual close friends I'd be talking to them a lot for comfort before I was able to talk to other people who were not in our circle. I think the magic of that show is that they really were all friends. It's rare to find these days on a hit show. Kind of like how the cast if Orincess Bride

I don’t think they’ve been super close to him in years. He said in the reunion none of them called him.

I never got the impression that any of them were tight, except maybe during filming because they were together so much. I think a lot of people wanted to believe they were a close little family because it keeps the magic of the show going, but at the end of the they were just coworkers. Are people super close with coworkers years after they leave a job? Sometimes, but it's not really the norm. Plus it can be very hard to be close to someone with addiction--it ruins friendships.

Can someone post a direct link to her post? Instagram isn't letting me access it from her page.

It’s a nice post but I question the closeness when one photo uses is a big stock one.

Well, read the comments and it’s clear that they were indeed quite close.

That went over your head. Read it out loud.

The post said they went in and out of each other's lives and every few years she'd get a text from him about a project. I think she has fond memories of him but I don't think makes them "quite close."

The entire thing is super sad. Hardly anyone outside of his family seemed to know him very well on a consistent basis. From all accounts of people who worked on projects with him, or from people who were friends of his from a long time ago, he apparently was a nice and funny guy. But he had a serious substance abuse problem for decades which probably caused the demise of many friendships or kept people from getting too close and hold boundaries. Sure, lately he seemed to be overcompensating with pickleball, his memoir and mentoring others who had substance issues but he also claimed to want a life partner and to have his own family (kids). Some reports claim he was very lonely.

I am just so sad this is how it ended, a life cut short. I’m not implying drinking or drugs at all contributed to his death. I have family members with similar long standing substance problems and you just hate to see what could have been.

“We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family," their statement reads. "There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss."
"In time we will say more, as and when we are able," the statement continues. "For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world."

Took them this long to say “we will say more” later? I see a special on the horizon with proceeds going to his charity.

Substance abuse is a lonely, terrible path in life.

I always thought David had perfect timing, especially the first season. They all got better in future seasons.

While David was given crediting for coming up with the idea they all make the same pay, it was Courteney who made it possible. In the reunion she said she had a clause that she would always be the highest paid cast member. She forfeited the clause in her contract so everyone got equal pay. Thus, despite what some say or think, David would never have the highest pay if Courteney kept that clause.
