+1 I wish there was a one-year mandatory military rule before college for all, like Israel does. |
What high schools need to do instead of paint a rosey picture of college, is to address the financials and ROI on school choice and degree choice. Don't go study basket weaving at an elite college and expect to make six figures to pay back those student loans. |
You left out this part: "TXDPS tells me the location this video was shot at is private property, and that they have permission from the owner to lay down razor wire and arrest migrants for criminal trespassing. This Border Patrol agent is likely just doing what he’s been told - but this will likely lead to more friction between TX & the Feds, who have drastically different approaches at the border." Sorry, no one - including migrants - are allowed to trespass on private property. ![]() |
+100 But you're wasting your time arguing with freeloaders. |
You do know the top 1% doesn't... take out loans... right? ![]() DP |
+1 I agree |
I am about as left-leaning as they come. I received a Pell Grant and still owe $10K on my undergrad loans from 20+ years ago. I was approved for loan forgiveness.
And I am totally ok with this SC decision. Shrugs. |
If they were a revenue generator, there wouldn't be a need for the government to forgive the loans. Instead, the government is losing money, because people aren't paying them back. If anything, the interest rate is too low, and needs to be raised to cover all the money the government will lose from lending to this group that is so likely not to repay. You say you paid 80% more than principal. There is someone else who didn't repay. On net the government has lost money. Technically, these loans are supposed to be a revenue generator, as Obama included the changes in Obamacare to make the budget numbers for that look better. |
But over the last two years, a whole lot of youth would never have been born but for the Supreme Court ruling last year in Dobbs. |
Plus you have to cover the costs of those who do not pay back. If the President is judt going to forgive student loans, then it is a money loser, and they should stop giving out student loans. |
The government needs to publish the loan repayment rates by college, and hold them accountable. Maybe higher interest rates at colleges with higher defaults. |
That wouldn't work because labor market outcomes pattern race and sex, causing universities who serve certain historically disadvantaged groups (i.e. HBCUs) having higher interest rates for said groups. |
“PPP Loans weren’t loans” - come again ? |
They were designed to be forgiven for anyone who met basic requirements. The "Loan" part was a bookkeeping gimmick and a way to claw back money from violators. |
