I am also an alum and you summarized how I and the alums I know feel. I don’t know a single alum that isn’t on the side of the family. We are all appalled by Stanford. |
Get the alums to look into Dean Caldera’s running of a college admissions consultancy during Stanford work hours. So sleazy! I bet she bends over backwards for the football team too. |
Sounds exactly like a similar case at MIT decades ago. They did the same thing, sent an email had no support and she literally lit herself on fire to avoid her abuser.
Her parents sued and they settled. It is what turned around MITs mental health procedures, admissions, and offerings. We didn't have another suicide for a long time until a person I knew jumped off the bridge in winter. They didn't find him until spring. That was awful. |
+1 I really cannot understand anyone that can read the complaint and not feel otherwise. Consequences are appropriate but the escalation that included threatening expulsion via email after hours when they were on alert as to her mental state was appalling. |
Extremely overrated school that boldly operates more like a corporation than an academic institution — perhaps moreso than any other school I can think of. Doesn't help that the Stanford grads I encounter tend to be less than brilliant, but with more self-assured entitlement than even HYP grads. |
Youth is about making mistakes and learning from it. I’m not the PP hu responded to earlier but I’m so glad you didn’t do anything drastic. I can’t get over the fact that Stanford literally perpetrated this young woman’s death. How does her family get over something so devastating! I am just so livid at this “institution” . They need to be struck off whatever list they are on. |
