First priority of the new house- impeachment, defunding Ukraine or abortion?

Democrats could give votes to McCarthy, which would make him a weak leader that Republicans would not support.

Massachusetts elected a state house leader this way, where the vote split was like 49-43 and the losing guy got the votes of 8 Republicans to steal the leadership. He is most well known for blocking a new stadium for the Patriots, even as Kraft was signing a deal to move to Hartford or New Haven or something.

Does the Majority Leader vote *have* to be a majority? What if it's a plurality? Because that would make it possible for Dems to elect the Majority Leader.

It has to be a majority, but does not have to be 218, if enough Democrats stay away (or only vote 'Present'). Unlikely to happen. It is possible (but also unlikely) for Democrats and a handful of GOP to band together to elect as speaker, someone the Democrats find palatable.

Confirming the unlikely part.

I think a first point of order would be to hold Marjorie Taylor Greene to account for saying that if she and Steve Bannon had been in charge of the J6 insurrection, it would have been armed, and they would have won.

No Democrats are going to vote for McCarthy.

Their boss weighs in

“Trump tells Breitbart’s Matt Boyle that he backs Kevin McCarthy for speaker and Republicans trying to tear him down are playing a “very dangerous game.”

What do we have here?

Thing is we’ve had this dance many times and it has never panned out. The conservatives will fall into line, tail between their legs. It might take an actual embarrassing loss, like the time the Dow sank 600 points in an hour after the first financial crash legislation was sunk in the House in 2008…

With Santos being exposed as a likely Russian asset, along with other scandals of Republicans being funded via illicit Russian dollars, I think any Republican who pushes a bill to defund Ukraine should be investigated as a likely Russian asset.

Haha - it wasn’t even Russian Space lasers. It was Jewish.

What shall we call this battle of the nitwits?

“The circus has already come to town.” Nice summary by the new Democratic leader.
