Clearly you don't know much about HVAC if you think it will run efficiently with windows open. |
Yeah, TBH the “efficiency” of a 20 year old HVAC system that wasn’t designed for an airborne pandemic doesn’t interest me that much. Get fresh air in the building. If they can’t show us that it’s coming through HVAC, seeing it coming thru windows is fine as an alternative. Get the building fixed if you feel so strongly about it. |
Yup. “To reduce SARS-CoV-2 exposure indoors, it is crucial to space seating according to guidelines, wear masks, and keep windows open.” |
Have they shared the data on the ACH (air change per hour)? Or co2 levels? If the ACH is 6+ or co2 <700ppm with the windows closed, then the ventilation on the HVAC system is good. If not, then crack open those windows 6”. |
If co2 level is high or ACH <5 then the HVAC system isn’t meeting air quality requirements. Open windows until you can fix the HVAC. |
| Sure, I'll keep my windows open when it's 95 degrees outside and 100 degrees inside. No problem. Hope my principal doesn't mind me teaching in my two piece and flip flops. |
When? I tried to search the minutes for the recent BOE meetings but couldn't find them. I did find the video from the meeting on June 13, where if you click on the 11:05 link for the Sustainability: Indoor Air Quality part of the agenda Seth Adams, Director of Facilities Management describes that they are actively in the middle of the RFP process for selecting vendors to pilot air quality monitoring programs for the Fall. https://mcpsmd.new.swagit.com/videos/175390 |
OK - how many days in the school year is it 95 degrees outside? Couple weeks in September and in June? The weather here is fairly mild for most of the school year. You can utilize the a/c *and* have the windows open 6". Or not. If you DGAF about air quality/covid then don't open them. |
I asked our school (and then Facilities) to disclose this data. Crickets. |
6inches. That is not enough. Look, if you care about Covid you’d know it’s multiple layers of mitigation and this is just for show. |
More is obviously better if the weather is nicer. But even 6” saw a large improvement in ACH. Reposting: https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/08/27/want-buy-schools-time-open-windows/ “But when we opened windows, even just six inches, we consistently saw air-exchange rates above the “excellent” target of five air changes per hour, with some rooms getting much more.” |
This is really old information from 2020. Not relevant with new variants. More current stuff says different. |
Link? Ventilation is ventilation. |
If you care about Covid you’d know it’s multiple mitigations and not just this for show. If you care you will mask and distance or do virtual. |
Yes, totally agree. I’ve posted that as well. Ventilation, masking, testing, etc. are all good & easy things we can do to reduce transmission. And they can reduce viral load so even if you catch it your case won’t be as severe. |
