I feel bad for your child's teacher. What else do you do to harass them? Did you also provide air cleaners and clorox wipes too - that would be far more helpful. |
You already know MCPS won't allow air cleaners. Why would you feel bad for a teacher who has parents that care about their health? You prefer long term subs in classrooms? |
I'd prefer who ever is the best fit for my child. If you cared about the teacher's health, you'd mask your kid, send in an air cleaner, clorox wipes, kleenex and much more... And, volunteer in the classroom since its so safe. |
No you're not. Sane people avoid pandemics like the plague. |
So 95% of the US is insane now and you're the sane one?? Ok then. Carry on. |
That’s just how ventilation works.
|
But will wi dies open on a 30 degree or 90 degree day meaningfully reduce covid? If not what’s the point beyond driving more teachers away. |
As above: I told her I'd be doing this. She didn't object. Three months later, in January, when the COVID cases in her class were out of control (my kid was at home for the whole month--the rates were just insane, I wouldn't send him into a school with that much norovirus) she messaged me and another parent midday to say that they had a shortage of high-quality kids' masks because the district had not delivered, and did I know where she could get some? I did--my house. We delivered about 100 of them to her in under an hour. And yes to the air cleaner and all cleaning products she requested. So no, you don't need to feel bad for her. I consider her an important part of our child's life and we treat her accordingly, including that she shouldn't have to breathe crapped-up air, a topic she happens to agree about. |
Sounds pretty misreable for your kid and the co2 monitor did nothing. |
Yes, open windows greatly improve ventilation - and meaningfully reduces transmission. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/08/27/want-buy-schools-time-open-windows/ “But when we opened windows, even just six inches, we consistently saw air-exchange rates above the “excellent” target of five air changes per hour, with some rooms getting much more.” https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/italian-study-shows-ventilation-can-cut-school-covid-cases-by-82-2022-03-22/ “With applications guaranteeing a complete replacement of the air in a classroom 2.4 times in an hour, infections were reduced by 40%. They were lowered by 66.8% with four air replacements per hour and by 82.5% with six air replacements, the study showed.” |

What were the differences between east and west facing windows? Just curious. We didn’t have AC as a kid and my east facing bedroom was so stuffy and stagnant at night while my sisters west facing room got a wonderful breeze. |
Too bad you didn’t have a co2 monitor to measure ventilation so you could compare. |
Yep, where exactly did the CO2 monitoring have any influence on any of the above? |
Have you sent these articles to the MCPS building folks? They keep claiming opening windows works against the HVAC system whenever parents ask but clearly they are wrong. Guessing you don’t need much of a science background or degree for those jobs, lol. |
