My point exactly is that your child's are genetic and you should get a second opinion. From your original post, they are very serious. And, if they are genetic, try to get them under control now as they can get far worse as the child gets older. Get another opinion. Most ped's don't know enough about migraines. And, most neurologists don't know how to treat them or keep up with the migraine medications. My primary care haven't even heard of some of the medications I'm on. I've been to multiple neurologists and many don't even know the new medications for those of us who failed the traditional ones. If they are mild, your child should try a triptan. If you can find one that works, they can get rid of the migraine pretty quickly. Imitrex is generally very safe and is over the counter in many countries. Screens may make it worse, but this is genetic. |
Rightfully so. If the majority of our kids can’t perform at grade level, then clearly MCPS is failing our kids. If our kids are taking Algebra, getting As, but not learning the material, then cleared MCPS is failing to provide the service that it is supposed to. Let my kid take Algebra (or Geometry or Calculus) elsewhere and reimburse me for that cost. I’m happy to have her take a test to prove that she understands the material. |
+1. And through the Blueprint for Maryland (Kirwan Commission) the extra 4 billion is rewarding public schools for this poor education. Vouchers would be much more cost effective way to shock the bureaucracy. It’s not about private schools educating all these kids - it’s simply about taking many of them away so they actually teach again. |
Do you even live in MoCo? Even if they gave out vouchers, there are only a handful of schools in the county to go to and any good school is always full. Pay of your own math class like the rest of us do. MCPS is offering free tutoring. Use it. |
Ok. Our principal categorically said the opposite. |
That's sad but I'm happy that MCPS is doing so much better. It must be because of how well they handled DL. |
Where is the report for MCPS specifically? I can't seem to find it. |

I had difficulty understanding some questions as an educated adult.
Like PARCC, it is hard to understand the questions. While content that is challenging if great, questions should be straight forward and succinct. Try an MCAP sample test. Sigh. |

Moment of Clarity.
No school wants kids to perform high on the fall assessments. When Spring comes 'round with a huge jump in scores... Poof, Magic. Excellent Schools, excellent teachers. Except for the poor schools. |
Yup. |
The philosophy behind this is flawed. Schools are not a business they are providing a service and must teach every child enrolled. Taking away kids doesn't improve educational outcomes and given the price of most private schools vouchers would be a bonus to rich families but would make private school unaffordable to poorer families. Most private schools do not provide Esol services so that disqualifies a huge percentage of mcps students from using the voucher program |
I think that's the point. They really don't care about outcomes simply to sweep the problem under the rug with vouchers that only make things worse. |

Do you even hear yourself? Pay for cram class. Shut up. Take the free tutoring from some college kid who ‘gets’ math but has no training in teaching? There aren’t enough private schools in the county? Start a voucher program and just watch how schools adapt! Sounds like someone is benefiting from the current system. I know you like those 5 dollar copay’s and free dental and eyes…fat pension and eyeing up a sweet beach condo in South Carolina when the coding husband retires after you. |
| Meant to say a ‘shut up answer.’ Not for you to shut up. Typing on a phone. I love hearing from folks who try to defend the indefensible MCPS. Please continue! |
