DL for many kids requires a lot of parent support. This child is not getting support not only with their academics but medical issues. If this child had such bad headaches you'd consider some of the mediations, especially at least a triptan which has been around for many years. This sounds either made up or a parent who doesn't believe their child. |
PP you sound like the MCPS staff member who told me to medicate my daughter’s ADHD. Leave the decision to treat a medical condition between the family and the doctor. That’s a very personal situation and none of your or the schools business. A school cannot require a child to be medicated so it’s irrelevant for this thread. There was a time in MCPS (before online learning) where all screen devices were not used during the school day. There were text books and paper worksheets/tests. MCPS has the means to eliminate screens for this child and that would be a healthier option to try before medication. All pediatricians think screen time for developing brains should be limited anyway. |
You are a truly nasty person. What’s with all this telling parents they are doing it wrong? Stop being mean. You are talking to a real person. How does it feel to know that you are so unkind? Do you treat people like this in real life? |
You have zero clue about migraines. ZERO. You are an MCPS apologist, and part of why so many people hate MCPS. |
OT, but this is EXACTLY who some of us would like to see more school choice in Montgomery County. I feel exactly the same. MCPS dropped the ball for Algebra last year and I spent hundreds of dollars on a tutor. Why isn’t MCPS being held accountable? And, if MCPS can’t teache my kid Algebra, give me a voucher to offset the cost of teaching my kid Algebra elsewhere. |
DP That is not true. Patients who are susceptible to migraines can have them triggered by too much screen time. |
Yes! Bring back portable slates and chalk! |
Nope - people here were posting about the 4th grade results well before we got ours last week. Our school told us they put them in the mail, not central Office. |
Well my school told me categorically that they came from central office. |
You know, I was not really for school vouchers, but after the absolutely appalling test scores, I'm thinking school vouchers might be the way to go. Unfortunately, I don't think there are enough private schools to accommodate even a quarter of the 160K students in MCPS. But I am pretty pi$$ed that I pay a sh1t ton in taxes for crappy service. |
My doctors will tell you otherwise. Screens are not the issue. Get your child real help and stop making them suffer. Why would you refuse medication? You have no clue. |
Kid has reduced screen time and still getting migraines. This kid needs a headache specialists and not just a general neurologist who is giving them the blow off. Kid should also have an eye exam and mri. |
Your "doctor" is a quack. I already put up a few links to support what I stated. Where's your source? |
Kid already saw a neurologist and pediatrician about it. Both said it was not chronic enough to warrant strong medication. But, it was worse during VL because of all the screen time. So, I had DC step away from the computer a lot during class. And it is true. being in front of a computer for long stretches can exacerbate migraines. I have them, too. My aunt has them. My niece has them. Migraines can be genetic. |
MCPS listened to parents complaints and dumbed down the curriculum. They aren't 100% to blame here. Parents like posters here complained about screen time and screen learning and the homework. If you look at this year's virtual, they brought back the regular class schedule/time. However, they still don't have much homework/practice. Parents complain about the homework/practice. What does school choice mean? All the schools are overcrowded but you can apply for a cosa or move. Or, pay for private. |
