Please explain to me how someone can be so pro choice and believe that adults have the right to terminate a "life" yet so anti gun to protect your home and family. Please explain the logic to me. I'll just read responses on RSS. Thanks. |
Who are we talking about? People who don't personally want a handgun, and think that owning one is a bad idea? Or people who want to legally ban handguns?
Because the former seems to me a perfectly legitimate position. The latter seems to exist only in the minds of paranoid gun-nuts. And, yes, while not everyone who owns a handgun is a nutjob, there are many, many nutjobs who own guns. Most belong to the NRA, and think--irrationally-- that Obama has worked tirelessly to take your toys away from them. |
So in your mind most of the people who want to own handguns are nutjobs but the people rallying at pro choice rallies and spamming my moms inbox about conservative lawmakers that want to take away her rights to even use birth control are perfectly rational and sane. |
You'll probably want to go back and re-read what I wrote if you're confused:
And if you're rallying to prevent the black Islamofascist black guy in the White House from taking away your guns, then yes, you're a nutjob. And furthermore a rube. I think the main reason people are worried about conservative lawmakers that want to eliminate the right to use birth control is that one of the two frontrunners in the GOP primary is a batshit Christianist who has gone on record as saying that Americans have no right to use birth control. Furthermore, he has explicitly attacked our Constitutional "right to privacy" that access to birth control, among other things obviously, rests on. Think about that for a second. If Obama gave an interview and said that about guns. You guys would never stop shitting your pants in indignation. |
If only we could arm the unborn fetuses; at least then they'd have a sporting chance. ![]() |
This is where you sound like the nuts you so describe. The original question was simple. How can a group of people who support people doing what they want to their own bodies be so against an individual's right to protect themselves. Most people who own guns aren't out toting around M16s and AK-47s. Most people have them for protection. You immediately jumped to the "all gun owners are anti Obama. This has nothing to do with Obama. You sound really unhinged. |
In any case, I agree it's silly to get worked up over Santorum. He has as little chance in the primary as Romney has in the general election. |
I'm pro choice and anti gun, and I'll answer your question.
I do not see these two issues as being the same at all. I see the abortion issue as being one of me having agency over my own body and since I am not in the "life starts at conception" camp, I still see a fetus as being part of my body. I see the gun issue as a public safety issue. Far more people are harmed by guns than saved by them. The scenario in OK where the woman had 20 minutes to get ready for the home invasion, load the guns, call 911 to ask permission and make sure her baby was taken care of before the actual act of defending herself and her son doesn't happen as often as the scenario where someone breaks in and the victim has very little warning. If your guns are so readily accessible that you'd be able to pull them out and use them to protect yourself with little warning, then they're readily accessible enough that your 5 year old will be able to find them and get hurt as well. I guess the bottom line is that you apparently see abortion as a right to life issue and I see it as a medical decision that is private. You see gun ownership as an issue of self defense and protection and I see it as something that is usually more dangerous than protective for the people the guns are meant to defend. |
A compelling line of argument.
Who is "against an individual's right to protect themselves?" A link? Hell, a name even? |
In general you shoot people who are criminals, terminating an baby that hasn't committed a crime is different. This goes true with the death penalty. |
This is where I'm starting to think we're dealing with the Crazy Christian Lady. She's incapable of seeing zesty language without curling up in the fetal position, covering her ears, and yelling, "Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!" ![]() Only crazy people use the "f-word"! |
Hard to commit a "crime" when you have no personhood. |
LOL there are nut jobs that terminate pregnancies http://articles.baltimoresun.com/2012-01-04/news/bs-md-abortion-doctors-murder-20120103_1_abortion-doctors-murder-charges-fight-extradition |
I'm still waiting for our Great Defender of the Un-Being to clue us in to what the fuck she's talking about. Who are these armies of pro-choice women who are agitating to ban guns. They don't exist. And certainly not in any meaningful elected capacity.
These two topics have as little to do with one another as "Hockey Fans vs Freedom Of Speech" |
People break laws. Look around. |
