compulsive etsy shopping

Confession...I think I may be a compulsive etsy shopper. Please tell me I am not alone? Anyone else????

When the going gets rough I get on there. Even if things are fine I like to take breaks from work to go on etsy, but I am more likely to buy something when stressed. I justify by telling myself I am supporting independent artisans or I am "recycling" by buying something vintage and I always bargain hunt. I use it for gifts for friends and family, but I use for myself and my family too.

I would be embarrassed if anyone could see the list of all the things I bought on there this year. I use everything I have bought for myself so it's not like it sits gathering dust in another room and I haven't spent above my means, but I think it's how I cope with stress. It takes my mind off things and I like the rush of knowing I found something unique at a fraction of the cost it might be in a store. I figure it's a LOT cheaper than say retail therapy with nice clothes, but I guess it's a bit odd to spend so much time there? I never got into ebay, but this....this is an addiction that isn't going away. It could be worse...right?

As long as you can afford it, good for you. You are supporting the "little" guy and the new small businesses. I look but don't buy.

I love the dream coat shop. Hand made, recycled sweater coats. But they are expensive.

OP, I have struggled with shopping for clothes for me and mu oods as a way to manage stress. Spending waaaay to much time hunting for just the right outfit or deals.

One thing to ask yourself is if you are ashamed or keeping it a secret from your family? If so, it is likely that you have a problem.

What I finally decided to do was to set aside one weekend a month wIth a set budget to shop. I won't go to any shopping website outside of that weekend. Amazing the time and emotional energy that it has freed up!!!!!U

I stopped buying it. I will put on my cart but don't buy it. Same going to the store. I'll pile stuff up in the cart and walk out of the store.

I understood that the browsing is what gave me the relief and not actually buying or owning it.

I've had a DVD player and a few baby items on my Amazon shopping cart for 6 months now and didn't buy it yet.

All compulsive Etsy shoppers are welcome to visit my shop, lol. I (and sisters) have some unique handmade beadwork jewelry. We take custom orders too.

And then an employee has to put all of your "purchases" back? Or someone looking for an item that's in your cart (and will never be purchased) can't have it. It's great to stop shopping, but that approach is a little rude, no?

At least they get to keep their jobs. If nobody took anything out of the shelves a lot of people would be out of their jobs, no?

BTW, I'm still in the process. I'm so sorry this bothers you so much but one day I hope to be a better human being and heal from my wounds and finally I'll be able to go to a store and pick just what I really need from the shelves.

Asshole!

When you put something in your cart it causes no problems for the etsy shop owner. They can still sell the item.

Apparently no one ever told you to clean up after yourself. And the name calling is juvenile. Chill out.

OP-what are some of your favorite shops? Every time I start searching Etsy, I become so overwhelmed! Thanks!
