What is your favorite peanut butter?

Our family loves the highly processed brands, but want to try something healthier. We had a "bad" experience with natural peanut butter many years ago - oily, but dry consistancy and hope they have improved since then. I know to expect the pool of oil on top which needs to be mixed in, but do you have a particular brand that you like that has a nice super smooth consistancy and nice flavor?

We loved the Costco (Kirkland) organic brand...but then a few months ago they stopped carrying it
On my last trip to Costco (we have a big family, we're usually there at least once a week!) I noticed a new item that was a Kirkland brand "natural" peanut butter. I haven't tried it yet but plan on buying it next trip.

While we couldn't get the Kirkland organic brand, I switched to Smuckers Naturals. I think it's pretty good. If you're used to the more processed brands, it may take a while to get used to the natural or organic types. But after you are used to those, the processed types will taste gross!

We've been eating only natural/organic types for several years now. A couple years ago, our fridge broke, and organic peanut butter needs to be refridgerated. We had just one of those mini fridges for about a week while we waited for a part to fix our main fridge, so to save space we used the shelf stable, processed type. I couldn't even eat it...my kids were ok with it, but said they preferred our regular (natural) type.

Nature's Promise has the best natural peanut butter.

No oil to mix in and it is really creamy.

I was not a big fan of Whole's foods. It was not creamy enough for me.

The Giant generic organic brand? Really? Thanks for the tip, I'll try that!

The kind you don't mix usually rely on palm oil. So it's "natural", but palm oil is around 50% saturated fat, which is way worse than peanut oil.

The kind you don't mix are all peanuts + salt, so there is no real difference between them.

So either you get the kind that tastes like Skippy or JIF and eat a lot of palm oil, or you get the straight peanut oil and it is what it is.

One thing about the oil, I usually buy a jar ahead of when we run out. Before I open it the first time, I store it in the pantry upside down. It helps with the oil thing.

I was just going to post this!!

I love JIF, but like the PP said, I'm hoping to find something with less palm oil. I've tried all of them, but really, JIF just tastes the best. It's the Simply Jif that I like.

Have you ever made peanut butter at home? It might be fun for your kids to do (or watch you do if they're little). You need a food processor. Just put in the peanuts with a tiny bit of canola oil and some salt (if nuts are not already salty) and turn it on. It takes a couple minutes and is fun to watch. You can do the same thing with cashews and almonds. You can add a little honey or maple syrup at the end if you want it sweet, like the processed store brands.

Nature's Promise poster...

Yes, the Giant brand. It is just peanuts and salt. No palm oil...

It is yummy and a great price.
