We have an overnight babysitter for the first time next month and hope to go away for one Saturday night.
Do you have any recs for where to go/where to stay? thanks so much! |
|
Why not go someplace nice downtown? Sometimes the Mandarin Oriental has a special rate for local residents.
Another possibility is the Chesapeake Hyatt on the Eastern Shore. |

Poplar Springs.....perfect.... http://poplarspringsinn.com/index.htm |
Second the Chesapeake Hyatt. |
| Marriott has a romance package. |
| Thanks PP, per poplar spring rec. Looks great!!! Plan to go in early fall. Never had heard of it! Love DCUMs! |
| I actually do not like the Chesapeake Hyatt unless you have your kids with you. It is over run with kids. I would think you might like a place less crowded. Ashby Inn, Paris VA is very nice for a one night getaway. There is a place in Middleburg that is great that I can't think of right now with a stone pool, really interesting inn. Would search Middleburg inns to find it. |
| DH and I went to Berkeley Springs a few weeks ago for our anniversary. We stayed in a suite (Betty Lou suite) at the Country Inn. I would only recommend it if you can get a room in the main building. There is a spa attached. We had a mineral bath and got massages and facials the next morning before heading back. I think the drive from DC would be about 2 1/2 hours. You can check out their website for availability. |
| Goodstone Inn, Middleburg |
| We did one night once at Landsdowne Resort. Would be good especially if you both happen to golf, or there is also a spa there. And then a nice restaurant for dinner. It was brief, but relaxing. You felt like you were away but still close to town. |

Going with the stay in town idea: we recently went to Hotel Monaco, next to the Spy Museum.
The rooms are fabulous and you can arrange for in-room spa services. There are so many restaurants nearby, and the Portrait Gallery is right across the street. You don't have to go far at all to have a wonderful relaxing night. And if you've only got 15 hours or so, you don't want to spend 4 of it in the car... |
| If you stay at any of the Kimpton hotels (on the east coast) they are 25% off until 9/1. Kimpton hotels include Hotel Monaco,Hotel Rouge,Hotel Palermo, etc. Use the promo code PWOW. |

Have been almost every year for our anniversary. So romantic. The dinner is AMAZING. They make you feel like royalty! |

www.gramercymansion.com outside Baltimore is soooo romantic.
I liked L'Auberge Provencale also but we were bored out there and didn't eat the dinner (we ate at L'Auberge Chez Francois on the way out in Great Falls which was incredible), but maybe it would have been worthwhile to eat there because the room was very nice but there wasn't anything to do there....I guess wineries maybe? |
| Nemacolin Woodlands...it is amazing!!!!! |
