I was just at the Artists Inn and Residence off of Dupont and It. Was. Amazing. It's a B&B with the coolest rooms I've ever seen, run by fabulous people. I'd do a weekend in town, and do it there.

I liked L'Auberge Provencale also but we were bored out there and didn't eat the dinner (we ate at L'Auberge Chez Francois on the way out in Great Falls which was incredible), but maybe it would have been worthwhile to eat there because the room was very nice but there wasn't anything to do there....I guess wineries maybe?

I'm PP that rec'd L'Auberge Provencale. I agree - unless you eat dinner there there isn't much to do. Except have a ton of sex in a romantic setting There are a few wineries that are close if you go during the day.

If you want something more urban you could also go to Philly or Richmond even...

i personally think visiting the wineries in va is so much fun. if you stay closer to the north you can pair it with some outdoor water activities at harpers ferry. if you're further south, you could pair it with a trip to luray caverns or hiking the shenandoah mountains. it's not exactly "nothing to do"

Ha! Well, when it's once a year it has to last longer than 3 minutes... Kidding.

I second the Annapolis suggestion, 1 hr from DC, you can stay at Marriott on the water, or a B&B right downtown. Take a $15 boat ride around the harbor, shop in boutiques, eat great seafood, stroll the pier and watch the boats, can be down rather inexpensively if you get decent lodging-we do day trips there a lot! enjoy
