The Trump Women and their Fashion Mishaps - Part Three

I think Usha’s husband is such a cheapskate misogynist that he hasn’t cracked his decrepit wallet open to pay for a stylist, makeup/hair, and help. This is the guy who doesn’t take his kids to his church, he brings his non-Catholic to wangle *her* kids.

I can’t think of any modern First or Second Lady who didn’t look like they had professional help at least some of the time (Jill wasn’t going to Saks herself for all those Oscar de la Renta dresses).

I’m not an Usha apologist, but I wonder how she’d look if she had professional help. Lots of stylists in the area know how to dress political wives.

Yes! That is all anyone has said, myself included. I think she would be pretty with help.

Darn it. Mel in a very nice Red Dress for V-day. Weird hair though.

How does she keep the heels from sinking into the grass? Does that basically require putting all your weight on the toes?

I’m sure she has clear heel protectors.

It kinda looks like a Star Wars costume. Like Rey.

I don’t think so.

I’m Gen X and didn’t get the picture reference. Is that Rachel Griffiths?

Same coats as the weird photo wearing coats inside the Oval?

That's an adorable picture. Love the coats.

Does the president and VP get funding to help pay for first lady and VP spouse official event clothing or do they pay on their own? For the Trumps that probably isn't an issue but for others it would be expensive.

Really? I am probably upper end of middle class, average by DCUM standards, but if I had a public facing event I can afford a stylist for at least a consultation or a few visits. And I’m sure there are some Mormont/Utah girl brands that would love to dress the VP’s wife for PR on international trips. It won’t be high end like Melanie, but really she just needs someone to help her choose silhouettes, tailor appropriately and style outfits instead of just wear them.

I realize DC is not particularly stylish, but in general, if you get a new, higher profile job, you dress appropriately. If she is doing events with her husband representing the United States, that’s literally her job - looking good - similar to Kate Middleton. Particularly when she is a part of the GOP - a party that prioritizes traditional values. Part and parcel of the gig.

Yes, we're all well aware. And happily - she does look good and is representing the U.S. in a completely appropriate way. Cheers!

NP to this conversation. I'm Indian-American.

I think a lot of frustration you're hearing from other Indian-Americans is that the gushing over Usha we're hearing from a lot of white people is reminiscent of the "Indian girls are all pretty because they are exotic" BS we've heard all of our lives. Personally, I think Usha has somewhat above-average looks, but she does very little to enhance them. Some of her choices make her look worse, and most are aging. To me, though I utterly hate him and the administration, she looks best when she's gazing at JD because she genuinely always appears smitten by him.

DP. I don't think Usha is attractive because she's exotic - there are plenty of Indian-American women who are flat-out unattractive. She isn't one of them. She's got a lovely face and physique. As for "not enhancing her looks," that's simply who she is. And personally, I *like* the way she does her makeup. Very natural. As other posters pointed out, if she was at the other end of that spectrum - heavily made up - she'd face criticism for that, too. I'm glad to see someone who is confident enough in herself that she doesn't have to go extreme makeover to appease a few noisy critics.

That is most definitely not all anyone has said, but ok.

Ugh. Who cares? She’s not interesting enough for this thread. I miss Ivanka.

Fyi this is a fashion thread - specifically a fashion snark thread. So if you have nothing to add, maybe keep scrolling. Or maybe start a “love trump women style” thread.

We need some Kimberly - looks like she's lost some weight, toned down the makeup, and is on the prowl
