The Trump Women and their Fashion Mishaps - Part Three

I think Usha’s husband is such a cheapskate misogynist that he hasn’t cracked his decrepit wallet open to pay for a stylist, makeup/hair, and help. This is the guy who doesn’t take his kids to his church, he brings his non-Catholic to wangle *her* kids.

I can’t think of any modern First or Second Lady who didn’t look like they had professional help at least some of the time (Jill wasn’t going to Saks herself for all those Oscar de la Renta dresses).

I’m not an Usha apologist, but I wonder how she’d look if she had professional help. Lots of stylists in the area know how to dress political wives.

Does the president and VP get funding to help pay for first lady and VP spouse official event clothing or do they pay on their own? For the Trumps that probably isn't an issue but for others it would be expensive.

The belt is a miss. Way too big.

The picture on the right makes the outfit look unflattering. It makes her look big on the bottom even though she isn't. Maybe it's the belt or the combination of the cut of the jacket/top and trousers and the belt.

Her hair is horrific. Remember when she had that bob? She looked great.

The littlest boy is all of us lol, what a cutie.

I think Usha's dress is too casual.

She should have worn a Salvar Kaemez or Saree to meet Modi. I'm embarrassed on behalf of all Indian-Americans. Also she's part of the administration that shipped back over 100 Indian immigrants on an inhumane military flight. She's a POS.

+1 How could she not wear Indian clothes to meet the Indian Prime Minister???

She also met Macron in those clothes. I’m Indian and I think it was the right call to wear Western clothes. Can you imagine the MAGA reaction if she wore Indian clothes while representing the U.S.? It avoided unnecessary division.

If she were a fashionista she could have worn something Indo-Western… or at least something with a paisley print… but she’s not so whatever

Even Ivanka gave a nod to India with her sartorial choices. Probably easier to do this when you are white and a Trump kid rather than the VP's wife.

I think Usha is bordering on slovenly territory with her unkempt hair, gaunt face, and oversized clothes, but in her defense. Ivanka was actually in India/Pakistan when those pics were taken. Usha was in France when she met Modi in passing; she was not there specifically to meet him. I wouldn't have worn Indian clothes either.

There is absolutely no way Usha could have worn what Ivanka did in the bottom picture without many of you ripping into her.

Yes, I think Usha could never do what Ivanka did whether in India or not. Ivanka gets a pass as Trump's kid and as a white woman.

To be fair, 3/4 of the posts in the Trump fashion threads are pointing out how ridiculous Vanky is. I can't remember what we said about her India clothes.

I guess Usha is so bad at clothes she makes Vanky look like a fashion mentor. Usha's are bad in a totally different direction. Vanky is all Ice Capades Russian Grandma Toddler Stripper, while Usha is just waah waah sad, limp, ill fitting. If makes you long for the spectacle of Ivanka.

Usha dresses like a stereotypical DC professional. when she has to dress up, she tries hard but doesn’t quite get it.

Right, it’s like any 40something professional/mom being told hey you’ve got a wedding and a conference coming up, better figure out what you’re going to wear, except it’s 60 weddings and 100 conferences one after the other and she needs help stat.

Yes! Also like she's decided she needs one dress she can wear for both. Which is how I dress! Because I don't have a stylist or unlimited money! Can I wear this dress to a wedding AND out to dinner AND to a conference and whatever. Usha should do better than me at a bare minimum! I don't know how to wear makeup or do my hair - do better than me, Usha!

Serious question, why does it bug so many people if she looks like a typical DC area mom? It’s not offensive. She’s busy running her life I’m sure.

She’s busy running her life? I’m guessing she’s not running to Giant, picking up prescriptions at CVS, Valentine’s at Michael’s and taking the dog in for a groom. She has people who now do all of that. All the time she’s spending not doing that needs to be spent on getting her visual act together. She absolutely represents this country every day and she most certainly signed up for it. She looks like a hot mess 90% of the time. Spend a few weeks getting it pulled together and then do whatever it is Second Ladies do.

OMG do you live in Vienna? Bc you literally described my morning at that shopping center.

Ha! I do! 😂

I agree. The Grace Kelly dress is lovely. She had such good taste.

I wrote about it above. I actually liked it. The fit looks good. The belt is wider than it needs to be, but I see she wants to show off her waist.

Her outfit was okay. It's not what I would wear to a football game, but I know she has to appease her dad by dressing like an officer worker.

Really? I am probably upper end of middle class, average by DCUM standards, but if I had a public facing event I can afford a stylist for at least a consultation or a few visits. And I’m sure there are some Mormont/Utah girl brands that would love to dress the VP’s wife for PR on international trips. It won’t be high end like Melanie, but really she just needs someone to help her choose silhouettes, tailor appropriately and style outfits instead of just wear them.

I realize DC is not particularly stylish, but in general, if you get a new, higher profile job, you dress appropriately. If she is doing events with her husband representing the United States, that’s literally her job - looking good - similar to Kate Middleton. Particularly when she is a part of the GOP - a party that prioritizes traditional values. Part and parcel of the gig.

She’s catching it from all sides and seems especially hated by two ahole factions here: racist white American women and infuriated, delusional Indian American women who think they are better looking or better-bodied than Usha. Both camps are wrong. I live in a wealthy part of NYC, and Usha Vance would in no way be considered ugly or especially “old looking” despite the greys or bare face. She would in no way be regarded as unusual running errands or at drop off or pickup. Some of you are mad mad mad at her for your own fd up reasons.

Those reasons why people dislike her probably have to due with her racism.

I like her shoes here. I can't see the dress too well, but wearing white in what looks like Florida can't be wrong.

I'm trying to get us back on topic.

NP to this conversation. I'm Indian-American.

I think a lot of frustration you're hearing from other Indian-Americans is that the gushing over Usha we're hearing from a lot of white people is reminiscent of the "Indian girls are all pretty because they are exotic" BS we've heard all of our lives. Personally, I think Usha has somewhat above-average looks, but she does very little to enhance them. Some of her choices make her look worse, and most are aging. To me, though I utterly hate him and the administration, she looks best when she's gazing at JD because she genuinely always appears smitten by him.

They live in a free house. They both attended Yale. They can manage hiring a stylist.

She's an attorney and her DH is the author of a best-selling book to which he also sold the movie rights. I think she can afford a dress.

If I look at Usha and compare to all the VP wives back to 1940, she is probably more fashion conscious than any of them and they weren't all elderly women at the time. It's never been a fashion plate role to begin with. She has proper dresses for evening occasions, decent coats, etc. She has a good figure. I'm guessing the hate is because she's not playing for the "proper" team.
