Does the president and VP get funding to help pay for first lady and VP spouse official event clothing or do they pay on their own? For the Trumps that probably isn't an issue but for others it would be expensive. |
The picture on the right makes the outfit look unflattering. It makes her look big on the bottom even though she isn't. Maybe it's the belt or the combination of the cut of the jacket/top and trousers and the belt. |
Her hair is horrific. Remember when she had that bob? She looked great. ![]() |
I'm sorry but if you're gen x, there is only one reference here ![]() but yes her hair looks MUCH better short. and brown. |
Ha! I do! 😂 |
I agree. The Grace Kelly dress is lovely. She had such good taste. |
I wrote about it above. I actually liked it. The fit looks good. The belt is wider than it needs to be, but I see she wants to show off her waist. Her outfit was okay. It's not what I would wear to a football game, but I know she has to appease her dad by dressing like an officer worker. |
Really? I am probably upper end of middle class, average by DCUM standards, but if I had a public facing event I can afford a stylist for at least a consultation or a few visits. And I’m sure there are some Mormont/Utah girl brands that would love to dress the VP’s wife for PR on international trips. It won’t be high end like Melanie, but really she just needs someone to help her choose silhouettes, tailor appropriately and style outfits instead of just wear them. I realize DC is not particularly stylish, but in general, if you get a new, higher profile job, you dress appropriately. If she is doing events with her husband representing the United States, that’s literally her job - looking good - similar to Kate Middleton. Particularly when she is a part of the GOP - a party that prioritizes traditional values. Part and parcel of the gig. |
Those reasons why people dislike her probably have to due with her racism. |
I like her shoes here. I can't see the dress too well, but wearing white in what looks like Florida can't be wrong. I'm trying to get us back on topic. |
Here you go. ![]() |
NP to this conversation. I'm Indian-American. I think a lot of frustration you're hearing from other Indian-Americans is that the gushing over Usha we're hearing from a lot of white people is reminiscent of the "Indian girls are all pretty because they are exotic" BS we've heard all of our lives. Personally, I think Usha has somewhat above-average looks, but she does very little to enhance them. Some of her choices make her look worse, and most are aging. To me, though I utterly hate him and the administration, she looks best when she's gazing at JD because she genuinely always appears smitten by him. |
They live in a free house. They both attended Yale. They can manage hiring a stylist. |
She's an attorney and her DH is the author of a best-selling book to which he also sold the movie rights. I think she can afford a dress. |
If I look at Usha and compare to all the VP wives back to 1940, she is probably more fashion conscious than any of them and they weren't all elderly women at the time. It's never been a fashion plate role to begin with. She has proper dresses for evening occasions, decent coats, etc. She has a good figure. I'm guessing the hate is because she's not playing for the "proper" team. |
