We know a few families who tried out at FCV wanting to leave our own club’s “dumpster fire”. Some chose to accept and some went to elsewhere but they all had positive things to say about the tryouts and the coaches. It was really different feedback from what I’ve read here. I would caution anyone genuinely curious about this or any club to go observe for yourself and take these comments with a serious grain of salt.

Ok Adam.

Bottom line is that FCV, right now after all local clubs have tryouts and offers, cannot field a team at many, many, age groups.

And there isn’t anyone staying except Tony (who was escorted out of LSP for trying to recruit kids) that has a positive story - and this is the 2015-2012 age groups. 4 whole years of kids all gone not because of the coaching carousel, but directly and only because of Adam.

So, enjoy, I guess. I’m sure it’s not that bad.

You are really odd. I’m not Adam and don’t know Adam. I’m a soccer parent that knows families who are going to fcv or considered it. Some I know really well and trust their judgment so there has to be more to it than what you keep spewing here. It’s really that simple. They know their field. They know their coach. They like the coach. Their kids are excited. Why does that make you so angry?

You just might be telling the truth about not knowing Adam. Because if you knew Adam, you wouldn't let your friends join FCV at this point.

If he’s really that bad then I’d imagine TSJ can hire someone else. I doubt they’ll let a single person crash and burn an entire club. So either a) he’s not that bad and the rumor mill went haywire or b) he is that bad and he is very replaceable. Either way it seems pretty silly that this is the club’s demise. Our friends are taking a leap of faith yes but they are no dummies. They won’t stick around if it’s as bad as you say.

Or TSJ doesn’t really give a crap about FCV and as long as it’s profitable they’re happy.

Can’t have profitability with unhappy customers.

Any info on the boy's youth program??

I'd like to hear all the bad and good please.

There isn’t one?

FCV until 4 years ago was a girls only club.

They kicked open boys and took in the sporting global Barca teams when they moved into other markets. They lost 98% of them.

Loudoun and VRSC teams flatten them, and also offer actual learning opportunities. The FCV boys program is trying to lure kids in with “you made it to the first team!” when the first team is kids that should be having fun in rec, and will have a miserable time in NCSL/EDP.

But hey, they got your $2850!

They are trying. Brought on a coach from Loudoun to try and bolster interest and validation. My friend took their u12 son and said it was a small tryout and a mess. I know a few families.in the boy's program that like it... But in general you won't find a lot of positives outside of easy entry into travel soccer for a boy.

Actually they did day it. Post on 05/21/2024 06:18: "Haha none of this is true. No fields, a coach left just this week, and tryouts have been a wasteland. No one is “taking their kid” to fcv right now. We’re all at the tryouts, we know. "

What about the training, drills or repetition?

Engagement, coaching and communication on/off the field?

Can you add more detail...

Specific dislikes vs things you actually saw that stood out. TIA.

As the PP stated, FCV / St James Soccer / St James Football Club (or whatever it is called) was only a Girl's program previously. You could say that the Boy's program is new, but it is really new. Any comments about current or past training / drills / repetition is moot because these new Coaches will have their own style / strategy / philosophy / etc. Maybe it will be great. Maybe it will be a complete dumpster fire. You have to look at the top and wonder....

Looking at the North roles...from Instagram

Director Of Goalkeeping - Chris Lawson (joined in March)
Director of Coaching - Patrick Finney (joined in March)
Director of Player Development - Chris Pruden (joined in March)
Asst Dir of Player Development - "Announcement Coming Soon"
Director of College Placement - Dominic Rutan (promoted to role in Feb)
Director of Soccer - Adam Baumgardner (promoted to role in Feb)

As to Fields - this is where coaches / teams / players are impacted.
Today, FCV uses 7 Fields:
Evergreen / Raventek / VA Revolution Field 4 - Turf.
Bles Park - 3 fields. Grass
Hanson Park. 3 Fields. 1 Field Turf, 2 Fields Grass

Next year, Bles is under construction by the County, and will not be available. VRSC is not renewing FCV's contract (they didn't renew Loudoun years ago, and this contract end was known), so that is not available.
That leaves 3 fields. For the WHOLE North Travel and Rec. Boys and Girls.

AB says that the County will probably allocate the 2 newly built fields to FCV. Probably is not a yes.

So - 3 fields.
Field 1 at Hanson is Turf, but only lined for 11v11. Anyone U12 and younger cannot play games there. AB said he's going to ask the County to line it.
Field 3 at Hanson is Grass, but only lined for 7v7. Only U9-U10 can play games there.
Field 12 at Hanson is Grass, but only lined for 9v9. Only U11-U12 can play games there.

So - if you are U9, U10, U11 or U12 and it rains on game day, what happens?

Anyone who has played for FCV knows with limited field space, comes crowded practices with up to 6 teams practicing on a single field.
Full field scrimmage? No.
Half field scrimmage? No.
Rec practicing next to Travel? Yes.

Chaos? Absolutely.

I have not been following this club closely but I thought AB worked out a deal with the Nzone at some point?

Doesn't the St James have a soccer field at its complex?

Not for FCV, that is the TSJ field that they use to generate money by renting it. Their GA teams hardly get to use it, and if any of the FCV teams get access its generally the south programming that consists of NCSL united teams.
