So I'm 31, had my HSG done in June, and have been TTC since March. I'm still not pregnant. I've seen an RE for an investigative cycle and everything seems fine overall and my husbands sperm is apparently on the extra high side. The only issue that was picked up was my thyroid was at 3.3 which was picked up about a month ago and I've been on levothyroxine for that since. Could that be the hold up in conceiving? After reading the thread below on women conceiving so soon after having an HSG I amnow worrying that this could signal an issue. I'm all sorts of vitamins, did accupunture for one cycle, am working on, and am generally in good health. I did concieve my first child 4 years ago with no issues on the first cycle. The only thing that has happened since is my appendix ruptured adn I'm concerned there is scar tissue. I'm weary about having laproscopic surgery until I've tried for at least a year. I know some might think I haven't even tried for a year so why am I worried. But the truth is, I am worried b/c we've timed sex perfectly. I've been tracking my BBT, and my RE confirmed that the day I ovulate which is inline with what I have been tracking. So why the heck isn't conception happening unless I have scar tissue that needs to be removed.....thoughts? Did anyone conceive well after the HSG?

It sounds to me like you are doing everything right and need to have persistence. Probably not what you wanted to hear, I know...
The HSG is a diagnostic tool; it's great you had good results, but it shouldn't help you *get* pregnant. TSH of 3.3 should not be preventing a pregnancy, and it should be lower now that anyway you're on the levo. |
| Thanks PP. I guess I do need to keep in mind that the HSG is a diagnostic tool. I just read a thread where women were referring to it as a 'lube' to help things along. So I thought, OMG, it hasn't helped anything along with me!!! But that hadn't really been on my radar of an issue to be concerned with. I hope patience is all I need =) It's hard though, after reading a thread where everyone seems to have conceived in 1-3 cycles of trying despite the age group they were in! |

When I had my HSG done, I was told that it occassionally helps people conceive, but it's not a guarantee.
I too have hypothyroidism and have been told numerous times by both my RE and my regular endocrinologist that as long as it's under control, it shouldn't prevent me from conceiving. My sister is also hypothyroid (Hashimoto's and history of other immune problems) and has successfully had 4 children, so don't worry too much. My endocrinologist is hypothyroid and she conceived and had a child last year. The only thing I would recommend is seeing an actual endocrinologist, rather than a general practitioner, for the monitoring of your thyroid. They are much more informed on the latest thyroid treatments, including the revised acceptable ranges for TSH. I've always been told that it should be ideally around 1-2 for conception. Best of luck! |
| I agree with the PP.When I was trying I did a batch of test and found out that I also had thyroid issues (no physical symptoms that anything was wrong) and my RE made sure that I had an endcrinologist monitoring me monthly because all the hormones and meds need to be in sync for a healthy pregnancy. |

10:48 PP here
I'm sorry; I understand your frustration. I am 30 (and infertile because of my DH) and several of my friends same age took 6, 7, 8, or so months. Then again, my sister only took 1 month. TTC is definitely not fair :/ Good luck to you! |
| OP here. Thank you for those who recommend I see an endocronoloist. I didn't even know what that was, and will now look into it! |
