OMG she skated so well!! I’m so glad she won gold!! |
She’s a genetically modified baby |
With a tiger parent. The Winter Olympics are a festival of tiger parenting. |
Me, too! She's so mentally strong and joyful on the ice, and it's infectious. Happy it's Alysa! |
Especially when she was so miserable in Beijing 4 years ago, with her family trying to dodge Chinese “officials.” |
| She’s Chinese |
She was born in California, you racist, xenophobic POS. She has TWO Olympic gold medals, World gold, World bronze, US Nationals gold, the list continues. She’s happy, beloved by fans all over the world, and thriving. She’s represented Team USA with pride and joy and dignity. And then there’s you. |

I'm catching up on watching the men's skating performances, obviously saw the results already.
Why were the NBC commentators so dismissive of the Kazakh skater's chances for this Olympics when he just got the silver at the last world championship? Even after he'd landed a bunch of clean jumps, they were acting like he was barely a.podium.contender in this Olympics "here to plant seeds for the next one." Obviously they expected Malinin to win and also I know the Japanese skaters had some blips too otherwise they could have bumped him. But they just seemed very uninterested in his performance - they were talking about other random things during it. |
| What a contrast from the 2022 women's figure skating ending...nice to see joyful competitors and good sportsmanship rather than the drama and disappointment. |
She’s an American, and a wonderful reminder that our diversity is our strength. |
And in your world, Isabeau Levito is an Italian. How dare she? How does your dark heart feel about that? |
That the IOC doesn’t care about the Russians? |
Whatever. He wasn't 100% perfect, but he handled defeat graciously for a 20-something man who was in another class ahead of his opponents and had a stunningly bad skate after having not lost a single competition since 2023. I showed my kids how he quickly recovered and congratulated his opponent. He's certainly a better role model than certain people currently occupying in the Oval Office who can't accept losing, accuse others of cheating, and incite riots and violence when they don't win. |
Yeah, they blew it, because the Kazakh skater was in 5th place and they didn't expect him to even medal, and they were so focused on the American gold opportunity. But Scott Hamilton apologized later for being so focused on Malinin that they blew off the actual gold medal performance and didn't give the actual gold medal winner his due. |
I remember thinking after 2025 Worlds that, wow, this Shaidorov guy is the next big thing. But then he had a relatively underwhelming 2025-2026 Fall-Winter season - to this point - so people can be forgiven, IMO, for overlooking him as a gold medal favorite in the Olympics. I am thrilled for him, by the way. |
