Dr Tara Abraham is finally opening her practice atv3301 New Mexico Ave NW. She will do preconception counseling but not obstetrics. Not participating in any insurances.

Lol is membership gyn a new thing? Fortunately insurance covers annual exam anyway and my office can always fit me in quickly if I have a same day/week need

I wouldn't mind paying but
1) It's a longer drive than VHC where I found someone because Abraham was taking soooo long.
2) She is solo so if I need someone urgently what do I do? Pay a concierge but go to some urgent care same as if I had no gyn at all?

She said she is on call for herself much like all other solo or fee for service gynecologists

Yeah but people take vacations. I no longer will have a solo practitioner.

For those of you wondering where Dr. Lynn Lightfoote and Dr. Tara Abraham are:

https://drlynnelightfoote.com
https://www.taraabrahammd.com

Neither appear to offer Obstetric services anymore. And Dr. Green, (Still affiliated with FoxHall Women's Health) no longer offers obsteric services either.

Lightfoote web site...heart and expertise. Maybe she was having a bad weekend on call last year but she was very grumpy and uncaring on our calls.
Abraham looks high maintenance for the high maintenance. Yeah curate my UTI.

This sounds awful! I switched from Foxhall to GW midwives during my first pregnancy because I didn’t love the bedside manner of two docs I met with. It’s true that GW has had a lot of turnover in recent years (and do not currently have sufficient staffing in the midwifery unit to guarantee you can deliver with midwives). However for my latest delivery, which was high risk and required a c-section, I worked with Dr. Phillips and Dr. Joey Bahng and have nothing but glowing reviews. Dr. Joey was my primary and they had fantastic bedside manner, was extremely knowledgeable and was available for almost every single appointment (that I booked in advance to ensure this). Highly recommend!

Switched to GW and delivered last week. Every single person was knowledgeable, kind and respectful. I assumed “fancy” meant better. I was wrong. GW isn’t a pretty hospital but is exceptional in the care.

I did come across this article re: Sibley and a Women's Center generally from 2022. Maybe Foxhall found it would be more lucrative to pivot to GYN at Sibley since these are the types of services they're switching to? https://www.washingtonpost.com/magazine/2022/09/07/womens-center-sibley-hospital/

I did ask one of the non- partner (non-owner) OB's if there was a lawsuit that made their insurance prohibitively high after a certain date and she said no. It sounds like most of the docs that were still doing OB were non-partners, and it was a partner doc decision to stop since a majority were no longer interested in doing OB. The non-partner doc even mentioned she found out about the change in a very similar manner to the patents with a letter and not much time to figure out a change

They actually do have 2 current malpractice lawsuits filed in 2024 still open. I think these 2 lawsuits are a big part of why they are no longer doing OB because these 2 lawsuits are not their only lawsuits their office faced. You can look them up in DC Superior Court Portal. I don't want hyperlink the case on this forum because the plaintiffs name is part of the title.

Just bumping this.
Got an email from Foxhall saying they now have a "non-negotiable" $150 per year "Administrative Fee" for all patients starting April 1st. This is to cover office and compliance expenses, including appointment scheduling. They then refer one to their website, which actually isn't running on https and has no new info on the fee. Confidence inspiring.
They have kept me on their email despite having left them after all the docs I ever saw left, back in late 2024 I think.

This email was nuts! I emailed and asked them to remove me from their practice immediately.

Good idea. They might bill me!

I might have last gone in late 2023 or early 2024, after my last child was born. I didn’t get an email but did notice the portal had changed when I went to request my file be sent to a new practice. I’ll have to call.

FWIW, Bloom also charges $100 a year which for just an annual GYN visit hardly seems worth it. But I think that’s just the way healthcare is going.
