| [flash]I have brown sun spots on my face and some parenthesis lines forming around mouth. I was a sun worshiper. Anyone around my age treating these issues? If so, recommendations? Thank you! |

IPL (500-1000 dollars for a series of treatments ) for brown spots. Or Fraxel Re-Pair if you can afford the $3000+ and downtime (at least a week of looking like you have the worst sunburn in the world)..
Results will be smooth, porcelain skin. For the parentheses - a filler like juvaderm will do the trick. About 400-500 dollars. Go to a good facial plastic surgeon. Not a "spa" |

For the brown spots (it's called melasma), wear sunscreen every day. no matter what. these can also be caused by birth control and hormonal changes as we age, and pregnancy, so consider if you've changed BC lately that may be having some effect.
Also there is hydroquinine and other bleaching OTC stuff that might work, ifyou don't have the $500 for IPL or glycolic peels. Also be sure to exfoliate regularly. |
| I am 34 with some sun spots that look like freckles, but I know that they really are. I am two weeks into using Clinique's dark spot corrector - you know the commercial with the spotted egg - and cannot tell a difference with the spots yet, but I can tell an overall smoothness to my face. Supposed to see results at four weeks, so we'll see if it's worth the $70. |
wasn't for me. no difference in the spots and smoothness isnt worth $70! even still, now i'm tempted to try the aveno version of the same product! |
| I'd try that new product from Clinique. It is supposed to be really good. |
| I tried everything on the market for my melasma and the only thing that finally worked was hydroquinone. Try Obagi Clear, it works very quickly. But hydroquinone is also a possible carcinogen so consider how badly you want the spots removed. |
I can attest that HQ can actually make it permanent- think Michael Jackson and vitiligo. He used hydroquinone to bleach the rest of his skin white to overcome vitiligo. dangerous stuff. |

It depends on the extent of your problem and your overall skin tone, but I got my problem spots lasered off very cheaply ($150 though that was five years ago) and it took, literally, 2 minutes.
I'm a good candidate - with very light skin, and I basically had 5 blotches. I went in for 2 that bugged me, and the derm actually found three more that were emerging. I went in for a consult and he just zapped me right there, so depending on your issues, it may not be that expensive. I definitely recommend going to a board certified derm who is certified to work with a laser. I opted for that instead of going to a spa type place. |
| IPL and a TCA Peel will do the trick. There is little to no downtime with an IPL but a TCA peel requires at least a week (depending on the strength of the acid, could be longer). Your skin should look 95% better. |
| Whatever else you decide to do, start using sunscreen 365 days a year. Sun exposure, even if it's not at sun-worshipping levels, only makes things worse. If you do laser, chemical peels, or Retin-A, you especially need sunscreen as your skin will be more sensitive to the sun. |
Please share who you went to. Thanks. |
http://www.lasersurgery.com/ Office near American University. Board certified dermatologists and certified to work with lasers. |
Thanks. Any particular doctor you recommend? |
I think everyone there is really good - that is pretty much what they do. Dr. Adrien is the "founder" but any of the docs should be able to work with you. I believe the consult is free. |
