Coffee while pregnant

I am 17 weeks today and been drinking a cup of coffee every morning. Will it do any harm to my baby? I just can't live without a cup of coffee every morning. I tried to avoid it as much as I can but I cannot. Did you drink coffee while pregnant and deliver a healthy baby?

You can safely have 200 miligrams of caffeine. One cup of coffee is unlikely to have more than that. I avoided it for most of my first pregnancy but have had a cup a day every day of this pregnancy until recently when the heartburn got worse than the need for caffeine! Enjoy your cup of coffee. Seriously.

Oh, and I think the biggest risk of too much caffeine is miscarriage in the first trimester and you're past that so another reason not to worry.

Just keep in mind that one cup = one old style coffee/tea cup like from a set of china. One cup is not the same as one mug which can be as much as 4 cups of coffee. Try to supplement with tea if you can, it has less caffeine.

Yes. I drank caffeine every day and my baby is fine OP.

I drank decaf, just to still get the flavor. Decaf still has a tiny amount of caffeine in it.

I drank coffee for the first 2 trimesters (1 cup of brewed per day). Then my baby developed an arrhythmia at 30 weeks. While coffee did not cause this, the caffeine exacerbated and I was told to stop immediately. I will not be drinking with another pregnancy. Now, certainly I am not saying this will happen to you - I'm just presenting my story. This is something that I never imagined would be an issue.

I'm not much of a coffee drinker, but I found the only thing I could keep down during first tri was regular, very cold coke. So I drank quite a bit of it! Enjoy!

I drank coffee until I was about 5 weeks PG and then the smell of it made me gag! Started drinking it in the second trimester (about 3-4 cups per week) and all was fine. PG again...and the smell still makes me sick. Will likely start again when this is over!

I'm drinking one mug daily (def bigger than one cup) in the morning and have since the beginning of my pregnancy (I'm now 30 weeks). When I'm really tired in the afternoons (3-4x/week), I also drink a smaller second mug.

I avoided it with my first pregnancy but based on research, as long as you're not going crazy with the caffeine, you should be fine.

I had one "cup" -- i.e., whatever amount the coffee machine at work spit out -- each morning. I'd also have a Coke on occasion.

OB said a cup a day is fine. I dilute mine with plenty of milk, which helps.

probably 2 cups a day here with #1 and #2--a little less in first tri, more in second and third.

Main risk is in the 1st trimester, which you're done with. Here's the caffeine content of a bunch of stuff. As others said, aim for under 200mg/day.

I had a doctor's appointment this morning and she actually recommended a cup of coffee each day to help with constipation.

Similar to PP my dr. recommended coffee to help with headaches. they still recommend laying off caffeine for the first trimester. my headaches started at about 16 weeks.
