This is more "off topic" than "political". Remember to vote Tuesday. Most importantly, PAY ATTENTION to the age of the candidate! Never before has demographics pertained to you and yours so much. Specifically, there are certain geographical areas that have been run by old people who have no interest in our schools and valuable resources (parks, playgrounds, soccer fields, for example). They would rather spend the money on "old people" interests. I am deliberately phrasing this in layman terms. Vote for those who will be on your team and are concerned about our children, for real! Thanks for listening. |
Agree with you, even though I don't vote. I was thinking about that the other day regarding our board association... there is some tension among the board members two of them are older, one is childless and the other is an empty nester. The third one has a young child and I hope he doesn't leave anytime soon, or if he leaves, someone like him (with a young family) takes his place. The demographic here is changing with lots of families having babies, so I feel it is important we are represented in the board (and it is also important "they" - retirees and young professions) are represented as well. |
I remember sitting at my grandfather's kitchen table while he ranted and raved about a proposed property tax increase to fund the schools. "Why should I have to pay for schools? I don't have any children!"
I was probably 8 or 9 and I still remember thinking "Wow." |
Must have made you feel like waving your arms and saying "Hey Grandpa, have you forgotten me?" In defense of older citizens, I have not had a kid in the DC schools for about thirty years, and it never occurred to me that I should not be contributing my tax dollars to fund the schools, nor have I ever heard that suggestion from any of my contemporaries. How about a deal: I won't condemn all young people because some are asses if you won't condemn all old folks because some of us are also asses. Most likely they were already inane when they were young like you. |
Word. |
Most people I know would not reside in this geographical area but for the schools. Isn't it too expensive otherwise/as it is? I could never imagine retiring here! |
