What candidates have promised to reinstate the MVA before pet projects like the new high school at Crown? And who will keep that promise? |
Those are separate budgets (operating vs. capital). A better question is who will preserve the capital budget by lobbying against Planning’s proposal to cut school impact fees by a third, thus reducing the amount of money in the already underfunded CIP. |
The new high school is a "pet project"? You are delusional. Thousands of thousands of kids are dealing with severely overcrowded schools. A few dozen parents want the MVA back. The priorities are correct. |
THIS |
Zero candidates have promised that. |
people who are not scared of literature, art and aesthetics. so kids wont grow up uncultured in the world. |
The first one that does will get the full-throated support of the MVA community. |
That and a dollar used to get you a cup of coffee. |
Exactly. People who aren’t scared to teach a broad spectrum of great writers — yes, including old white men! We can add a diversity of voices while keeping writers like Hemingway, Keats, and Dickens. |
The MVA community is far larger than the 800-student figure would have you believe. There was a waiting list of thousands to get in. |
Which candidates are in favor of or opposed to this? |
I would expect outreach to ramp back up in the coming weeks. There are only 6 candidates left in the race at this point: At Large: Lynne Harris (incumbent) Rita Montoya District 2: Brenda Diaz Natalie Zimmerman District 4: Shebra Evans (incumbent) Laura Stewart |
In the at-large and district 4 races, your choices are either the incumbents or the teachers' union's endorsed candidates. |
The mva could take out thousands in person. Far cheaper too. |
I'll take the devil I know over another MCEA representative. |
