| Not trying to start the border war here, but I thought that most people moved to Maryland for the schools. Why are they now spending $25k to send their kids to nursery/preschool here? I find that kind of odd. |
| Here where? |
| People move to Maryland for the public schools, not preschools. They are pretty much the same everywhere. Maybe the Marylanders work nearby, a VA or DC preschool is more convenient for drop-off/pick-up. |
| OP here. Private preschool in NW DC. |
| What do you think happens in the other 48 states that don;t border DC? People everywhere send their kids to private school, even in good school districts. And, most public school don't have nursery....... |
| Lots of people choose to have their children in preschools or daycares close to their offices - and as PPs have said, most public schools don't have preschool programs, so not really fair to say why did you move there for the schools and then not take advantage of them. |
| A better question is why is anyone spending $25,000 for their 3 year old's nursery school? |
this. |
NW DC??? Thats practically MD. I thought you would have been commenting from VA. |
|
Ummm, because preschools are rarely public, so we don't live in MD for the preschools?
I live in MD, about .1 mile from the DC line. I send my child to a private NW DC preschool b/c I thought it was the best school for her. I didn't consider at all whether it was in my state - that's irrelevant. In fact, of the three schools we applied to, all were in DC. Beyond quality, it was made easier that I work downtown and it's easy to drop her off on my way to work in the morning. We also will likely go to private elementary school; looking at schools in MD and DC (and VA, actually), and again, what state they are in will have no bearing on our decision. |
| I don't get why this is a concern. |
| Dido why does it matter where the kids are from it's not a public school where you pay taxes to attend a school....I live in DC and work in Rockville and my child goes to preschool out there |
| Curious what preschools cost $25K ?? |

| Even out in the nonexpensive suburb area I live in there were several Montessoris that ran almost $20k a year for FT care. I imagine it's a very good program that's FT - still ridiculously expensive, but far from unique. |
