The article has a very nice graph that illustrates the implications of his plan.
"According to the Tax Policy Center, a 9-0-9 tax would still raise rates on the poorest households. The center's first pass at Cain found his plan would raise taxes for 84 percent of Americans while handing out huge tax breaks to millionaires thanks to a zero percent tax on investment income. Households making less than $50,000 would lose an extra two months' worth of income. Millionaires would see their after-tax haul increased by more than a quarter" Although the graph actually suggests that the bottom 94% or so will pay more taxes, so there may be a typo in the text. If it weren't so tragic it would be funny because you almost get the feeling that he's only running to reduce his own taxes at everybody else's expense. It must be so weird being a staffer for this guy (unless you're a complete moron of course, in which case it's self-explanatory). http://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2011/10/herman-cains-9-9-9-plan-is-disintegrating-in-front-of-our-eyes/247186/ |
