Chinese girl dies after being struck by truck - WARNING: Links contain graphic images.

Is it a matter of the culture, tendency to punish good Samaritans or the fact that the victim was a girl that made this happen?

Speechless. Horrified.

This is horrible. What is wrong with a culture where 17 people pass by and not ONE helping a baby dying in the street.

I supose the same culture that brings melanine to baby formula as a filler that kills dozens and the same culture that has poisioned rivers with such extreme pollution that nothing lives.

I didn't click in the links, but yet, I am still haunted by the images in my head of a little girl agonizing in the road while people just ignore her! I wish I hadn't clicked in your post and I think you should have put some kind of warning in your header.

My husband and I were just talking about this heartbreaking story. Rest in peace Yue Yue and I pray your parents are able to find even a small amount of peace in the coming days.

I think the header was very clear about the thread's topic.

Really? I think there is a HUGE difference between a child dying after being hit by a car (yeah, sad but it happens) over a child being hit by TWO trucks and left unattended/agonizing by the road while 18 people pass by and ignore her....

Is it just about the money? Don't they get longer jail sentences for killing someone than if they hurt them? What about their conscience? How about revenge by the family of the person killed?

Poor baby.

I saw this story the other day - horrific.

Not that it's our place to try to change another country's laws - but I really believe that the Chinese government needs to rethink it's laws/policies about this sort of thing.

Where were her parents???? She was laying in the road for quite some time-- why did her parents leave a 2 year old to wander by herself on a busy street?

Do not watch the video. Do not.

I did. And I'm very sorry that I did.

Oh please. In your culture a girl is raped, her "friends" tape it with their cellphones...

Nobody is in a place to talk about "other cultures" here.

I live in Massachusetts and earlier this year an old man was struck by a car in Springfield and he lay in the road for several minutes before anyone stopped and tried to help him.

This sort of thing can happen anywhere, but I do understand that in China there is no "Good Samaritan Laws" and that people who try to assist someone who is hurt are liable to be sued later.

I watched the video. The version I saw was abbreviated, but the child was laying in that street for some time- well over 10 minutes. I can not believe that in all that time, her parents were never looking for her.

Uh, the Chinese media is full of discussion about the cultural issues that led to this.

That was awful. I just prayed that the little girl was knocked out immediately. That she felt barely a second of pain and then was completely unaware of anything further. No one should suffer what I fear she may have suffered.
