An increase in reporting does not mean an increase in incidence. Many cases predate smith.

Also, correction on Starr’s tenure. Although Starr was a dud, Curriculum 2.0 was not his baby. It was the ‘great’ Jerry Weast - who got a nice trip to Australia and New Zealand out of the deal (and likely some capital for his consulting business)

How's that going? No closer to changes than we were two years ago but hundreds of thousands wasted in studies, committees and non-action. That money could have been much better spent on students. There will not be major changes in boundaries just small tweaks. You didn't need years of studies, surveys and outside groups to figure that out. Jack loves burning money to pay outside organizations.

That's just a few of the top of my head all during the wonderful Jack Smith era. Code of conduct has not been updated since he has been at the helm. There is no consequences for serious offenses of violence, sexual assault, racism, etc. The fact that he saved the Damascus principal by bringing her to central office when she was caught red-handed trying to cover up crimes. If he couldn't push to have her dismissed, it shows it's not a priority for him.

Improving education for all students should be a priority for MCPS but what would actually help black and brown students more, spending $450k to put an extra teacher in 9 elementary schools to lower class sizes, put $450k into weekend/summer support programs for struggling students or spending $450k on a study. Jack loves paralysis by analysis. Beat a topic down with anecdotal data but not actually put money into fixing the problem.

Board said they wouldn't renew Starr's contract and he left early. Unfortunately Smith was just renewed (4 more years). Chances are he won't finish his term and Monifa will take over. Everyone knows and expects this. For him to be fired at this point, it would have to be something egregious.
