The 06s practice in both Tysons and Reston. Current DC players are PT and come to Tysons one day per week to practice with full squad. All home games have been in Reston. Coaches said next year will have 06, 07, 08 teams. I assume more 06s will be added to that team since they scheduled ID sessions at 3 partner clubs. They can start will a pool of 60+ players to evaluate plus any outsiders. Obviously, any player added has to want DA and be able to play at that level. There will probably be fewer play ups but one or two still playing up would not surprise me. |
Why would the playups continue playing up? Aren't they a part of the problem? |
The point was it depends on numbers and talent level like any program. |
The question really is, are the playups deserving or are they just roster filler? |
I would say it depends on the team and player. It is rare to find any play up deserving on any local team. It should happen very rare cases. |
Well that is what is being asked here. Are the playups deserving? And based on that teams success, frankly, is there anyone on that team that is deserving to be there at the DA level? |
True, it should be. Instead, it's becoming a thing where every team has to feature a play up or two. Not playing up doesn't mean a player isn't talented, but people think if their kid doesn't play up, that's what that means. I don't know when playing one's own age group became something to look down on. |
Look if a team has 3 or more play ups, it is certainly lack of talent at that age versus deserving kids. Especially at the DA level. Play ups should be rare and a YNT potential player. US Soccer is clear on this. |
Attack the kids there based on the obvious shortage of at age players based on results with half a roster...SMH. |
How many of the kids on a win-less team with what has been reported has a -50 something goal differential deserves to be on that team? So you are saying the playups are not deserving but that there are kids at age on that team that are? |
I think there are some jealous parents out there. Seem to focus a lot on the play ups. That is what I am saying. |
| Why would a parent from another team come on this board and keep asking questions about the MU play ups? Kinda weird... |
New poster here. I’m shocked to see what I read on this forum quite honestly. I don’t like posting in places like this because of some of the craziness I have seen, but I feel like I need to add something here. I have an 06 daughter on this team. I do think there is a play up on the team who has “deserved” it. The others are also very good players but would probably slot into a 2007 team, if Metro had one. As for my daughter, she has put in lots and lots of work and I feel she is good enough of a player to “deserve it.” Unfortunately the team doesn’t have the full, eleven player 2006 level talent to do well against established teams like FCV, but they have played well at times against several other teams. It’s very hard to be a player or a parent on a team that is not quite at the level of a few of the other area teams. I imagine McLean’s ECNL and a few others feel the same. Some of the people who post here though really have no shame. |

I think the above answers the question. People will more interested in joining a team if there is a core of quality players.

They are evaluating the program. If MU will make a point of always having a play up or two on every team (similar to what Spirit did, although Spirit was more off the charts with it), then they may stay where they are. |
