Waaah! |

Michigan and Cornell both are great in a wide range of majors. In fact, Michigan is ranked 6th and Cornell ranked 9th in Undergraduate Engineering. No Ivy ranked ahead of Cornell in Engineering. For example, the vaunted Harvard is ranked 25th, along with Penn State University and University of Maryland.
So folks, it depends on what major one likes to pursue. I wouldn't go to Harvard for Undergrad Engineering if I get admission offer from MIT, the God of Engineering. |
| Fake thread. This isn't a real decision. Nobody with a brain chooses public u over an Ivy. |
Especially if you are from the East Coast (mid-Atlantic). The price tag isn't that different between the two. And the driving time is less for Cornell. Its an Ivy and attracts more geographic diversity and better prepared cohorts. |
| And you wonder why the people in flyover country hate their Ivy-"educated" shithead masters in DCUM-land? |
When deciding between a school ranked 17 and a school ranked 25, you go where your heart and your pocketbook take you. |
Except the donut hole families that’s not prepared to pay $70,000+ per year for 4 years. |
| The odd thing here is that the schools and their atmospheres are very different. It really should be based on where the kid feels most comfortable and where the academic opportunities provide a decent possible fit (provided the kid is not looking for some very specific program or has scholarship possibilities, etc. . . that would lead to a different analysis). |
This is a baseless myth spread by tailgate state dimwits on message boards. The avg Cornell debt load is less than Michigan's according to US Gov Scorecard. And Cornell grads make a lot more money! You sorry dimwits need to just stop. https://collegescorecard.ed.gov/school/?170976-University-of-Michigan-Ann-Arbor https://collegescorecard.ed.gov/school/?190415-Cornell-University |
Kids rejected from Cornell handle Ann Arbor and Charlottesville just fine.
|
Good lord, you do luv you some Cornell. Tenacious little bear. |
Does that include parent HELOC loans? And what about average out-of-pocket expenses? Does Michigan offer merit aid? Yes, we know many top schools provide great financial aid for low-income folks, but $280,000 per kid is not trivial for the vast majority of middle & higher-income families. |
| Since I know many of you live and breathe the almighty US News rankings, you all should look at undergrad teaching rankings. Michigan is ranked #13 in the nation for undergraduate teaching. Cornell? #61. Oof. |
But everyone at Ithaca would rather be at one of the other Ivy cities so we will call that a push. |
Ok, then choose Elon over Harvard or Yale or MIT. The number of people go by that ranking - zero. Why do such rankings even exist?
