Per the 2018-2019 Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook:
https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/uploadedFiles/childabuseandneglect/1201%2018_StudentRightsAndResponsibilities_WEB.pdf Discrimination includes actions that are motivated by an invidious intent to target individuals based on their actual or perceived personal characteristics, as well as acts of hate, violence, insensitivity, disrespect, or retaliation—such as verbal abuse, harassment, slurs, threats, physical violence, vandalism, or destruction of property—that impede or affect the learning or work environment. |

It was with trepidation that I went to pick up my dd after school, after all that I have read on DCUM about the new pick up procedures. And it being a rainy day, I figured it would be that much worse.
I left the house about 10 minutes after I used to before the new procedures (and warned dd that she would have to find something to do in the school for some time after school). And when I got there, it was completely smooth sailing. The lot was empty and there was no line of cars/parents. This was at 2:44 (so 14 mins after school let out). It seems like the situation has righted itself. It's probably true that we can't plan on pickups at or before the 2:30 bell. But if the kid is willing to hang around inside for 15 mins, there seems to be no problem at all... |
YOu do know that this isn't the Principal's inbox right? |
As Pos have noted, she does not respond to emails. Just thought a note on DCUM couldn't hurt incase she is reading the thread. |
My child has an after school activity planned well before Mrs. Heckert's announcement for the Senior lot. Some days are worse than others, it depends on the timing of the buses. Some days the buses spill out onto Victory Lane and blocks traffic. Today, some of the buses seemed to be running late. Not all of them were there at dismissal. They also had staff on hand directing the Seniors out of the lot which was easier because of less buses. Staggering the times the buses come is the biggest factor in managing traffic. You got lucky and hit a day some of the buses must have been running late. I have seen sunny days with worse traffic than this afternoon. |

This website has a great synopsis of student rights under Title IX. Sexual harassment and bullying by coaches are discriminatory acts and Churchill is in blatant violation of Title IX by letting these coaches remain on staff.
https://nwlc.org/resources/title-ix-protections-bullying-harassment-school-faqs-students/ You can file a complaint with the US Department of Justice and the US Department of Education if your child has experience sexual harassment and bullying in the Athletic Program at Churchill. For the past several years, parents and student came forward with complaints that were not addressed. MCPS has been told of the problems and has done nothing at great expense of the students. |
|
You can also contact the Maryland Department of Education for a Title IX issues. This is the office to contact:
http://marylandpublicschools.org/about/pages/ofa/equity-assurance/title-ix.aspx\\ Kim Y. Johnson, Esquire Director Equity Assurance & Compliance Office Maryland State Department of Education 410-767-0426 410-767-0431 (Fax) TTY/TDD: 410-333-6442 kim.johnson2@maryland.gov |
| Churchill is also in violation of Title IX if you brought bullying and sexual harassment to the attention of the Athletic Director and/or Principal and were not told of your right to file a Title IX Complaint, the investigative process, and your right to a hearing including your right to examine the evidence found as part of their investigation. If these missteps happened, you should state them as well as the actually incidences of bullying or harassment as part of your Title IX complaint to either the State or Federal Agencies. |
You're right. She's probably ignoring her inbox and cruising DCUM |
| Perhaps Mrs. Heckert will come to the upcoming PTSA meeting on October 17th? Parents need an opportunity to have their concerns and questions addressed. It's great that Dr. Moran is coming but given that this is the first PTSA meeting at a school with multiple important issues, parents need Mrs. Heckert's responses. |
I don’t know about dcum, but she’s active on Twitter, so you could try her there! |
Churchill administrators should realize that the average parent is over 40 and does not use Twitter. Students also don't use Twitter because they prefer Snapchat or Instagram. Sometimes administrators need to know the population they serve to be an effective communicator. |
| Probably checking and answering emails would be a better use of Mrs. Heckert's time than maintaining a social media account that no one reads. |
Tons of MCPS people use Twitter. If you’re not on, you might want to get on. They probably post more there than anywhere else. Where they’re not is on Facebook. Twitter is less risky. I disagree that people over 40 are not on Twitter. And there’s no way admin will start using Snapchat or Instagram alongside their students. But yes, email should take priority. |
Marketing 101 - you are supposed to adjust to your marketplace, not assume the marketplace will adjust to you. Using an outdated form of social media especially for the high school population just shows that your message is falling on deaf ears and you are out of touch with the community. |
