It was with trepidation that I went to pick up my dd after school, after all that I have read on DCUM about the new pick up procedures. And it being a rainy day, I figured it would be that much worse. I left the house about 10 minutes after I used to before the new procedures (and warned dd that she would have to find something to do in the school for some time after school). And when I got there, it was completely smooth sailing. The lot was empty and there was no line of cars/parents. This was at 2:44 (so 14 mins after school let out). It seems like the situation has righted itself. It's probably true that we can't plan on pickups at or before the 2:30 bell. But if the kid is willing to hang around inside for 15 mins, there seems to be no problem at all...
My child has an after school activity planned well before Mrs. Heckert's announcement for the Senior lot. Some days are worse than others, it depends on the timing of the buses. Some days the buses spill out onto Victory Lane and blocks traffic. Today, some of the buses seemed to be running late. Not all of them were there at dismissal. They also had staff on hand directing the Seniors out of the lot which was easier because of less buses. Staggering the times the buses come is the biggest factor in managing traffic. You got lucky and hit a day some of the buses must have been running late. I have seen sunny days with worse traffic than this afternoon.
