I guarantee Stanford and Yale win like 95% of the dual admits vs Columbia and Chicago.

But I guess they have to sell magazines and generate website clicks.

more like 99%

After H Y S P MIT (and in that order) 6 through about 15 are pretty interchangeable. Colleges outside of the top 5 and 15 don't have firepower worth obsessing over. Nobody is ever going to think or say "OMG you went to UCLA for undergrad?!" just as nobody is ever going to think or say "OMG you went to Northwestern ug?!"

Obsessing or even noticing that such and such jumped into the 20s or 30s or 40s is just sad. Nobody cares about a dime a dozen NYU, Wake Forest, UVA, Michigan or Rochester grad. Nobody.

Dual admits isn't a good metric. Lots of kids (maybe most) who are competitive for these schools are one and done via EA.

WPI, Rutgers, and UConn over UMD? Cringing

And I don't think the kids would honestly even care, IF the parents didn't obsess.

5-10 years out, no one is thinking that about HYPSM, either. Unless you’re a loser who struggles in the real world and has to lean on the name on your diploma to get you through.

The alumni connections for top schools is very strong for a lifetime. I wouldn't discount that consideration. It is humorous though how often successful Harvard, Wharton, Duke and Stanford alumni will bring it up in conversation. Less so from equally,or even more successful people, that graduated from MIT, Yale, MIT, Columbia, UChicago, Brown, Dartmouth and Princeton.

I'd argue dual admits are the purest metric. ED is gamesmanship, by both parties. Holding a pair of EA/RDs acceptances nets a pure decision.

Like a decade ago Megyn Markel was on a late night show humble bragging about going to Northwestern. It totally went over the head of the host. He had no idea or no care in what she was bragging about.

Yeah, except for when you're applying to PhD, MD, law or MBA programs... or job hopping... or wedding announcement... or need investors... or need a bank loan... or running for political office... or running for a board seat...

Having gone through this with two kids, even the kids with unengaged/not obsessive parents really do care.
