2 Year Old Dragged into Water by Gator at Disney Resort

How is that possible? Disney doesn't kill or capture them?

It is FLA and there is water, there WILL BE GATORS. Disney works with Fish and Wildlife works with Disney constantly to remove gators. But, DAMN, it is Florida and there are Gators. END OF STORY.

But everywhere else in FL posts signs warning about gators near water. Disney does not. A no swimming sign does not warn people about gators.

that's your response to this tragedy? are you the spawn of trump?

I guess, and no. Gators will eat what they eat. Keep kids away and they won't get eaten.

Why would anyone expect gators to be at disney? How would you know to take precautions at an amusement park or resort?

They spray for mosquitoes but don't remove gators? WTF?

I'm PP, and why would a 2-yr-old be on a beach at 9:30 pm?

You are a sociopath. But, I'll explain it:

Family from Nebraska, central time zone (8:30 their time).
Disney = activities all day, back to hotel in late PM for naps. Quite possible this kid took one of those monster 3+ hour naps that ended late.
Dinner, then a short bit of relaxing for the family since the kid was still fully rested. It was supposed to be vacation after all.

Your are a freaking loser and an idiot.

Poor parenting us often discussed and this is an example if a two year old up too late and parents no watching. Or dud I miss the oart where the alligator broke into their place and removed the sleeping child from a bed

Otherwisee, it is just a horrible tragedy. Disney has been at that location for more than 40 years. If they were truly negligent, this would not be the first incident of this kind.

Weird -- the 4 yr old in the playpen caught my eye too. Others metioned movies and parades -- yet I haven't read witness accounts of seeing this family.

None of this makes me bat an eye.

Two year old is wild and stired up from all the excitement. Parents let him run around to burn off energy until the parade with dad strolling a few feet away in eyeshot and voice control but not arms length.

Four year old is tired and worn out and having a meltdown, so mom says "Fine. Get in the pac n play and lay down while your brother runs off some steam. We lugged it out here so someone might as well use it."

Dad is tired, feeling laid back because after all, they are on vacation and it's Disney. The toddler sees the gator and runs directly towards it because after all it looks just like the Captain Hook crocodile he has seen all over the park and Jake and the Neverland Pirate. Dad tries but he does not react quickly enough to get to his son before the aligator gets him and by the time he gets there it is too late

None of this, the toddler near the waters edge or the four year old in the playpen sounds surprising.

And why did Disney have a lifeguard stationed at an alligator infested beach if they weren't allowing swimming?

That's a hell of a concocted story to replace "mom and dad just weren't paying attention."

Guns are prohibited on Disney property. My sister works there and takes issue with not being allowed to leave it in her car.

I realize you were probably joking, but someone might believe it. Also, it is in poor taste.

I wasn't joking. I'm not a big gun fan, and I don't own any, but what I said is a true statement. And if I were in the situation that PP described about finding one in the backyard, I would buy a gun and do the same thing. I have three kids to think about.

Police and specialized Disney security are the only ones allowed to bring guns onto the property.

We stayed at the Disney beach resort. It looks just like a beach, and has no swimming signs. Beautiful. I can well imagine a little kid walking into the water.

The lifeguard was for the hotel pool which is detached from the lagoon where the family was wading. There was no reason for the lifeguard to even be looking at the lagoon where swimming is banned.

You want M************ carrying guns at Disney World? You are crazy as hell!!

Anonymous wrote:"No swimming" means "no swimming" and CNN reports the child was in the water. Why do people continuously think signs and rules don't apply to them?? Tragic, but 100% preventable.

Wading doesn't equal swimming. No swimming suggests a drowning risk or maybe a pollution issue. It doesn't suggest danger from alligators.

If that happened to my precious boy (my only child) I would be done and looking for an exit strategy.

I'm with you. I can't even imagine.

What is "too late?" Not everyone has the exact same schedule. I knew a family where the Dad worked a late shift (till 8 pm) every night so the whole family adjusted it's schedule where the kids stayed up late so they could actually spend time with their Dad daily. The kids were not sleep deprived--they just slept later in the morning.

+1

Every time a tragedy involves a child, people point fingers at the parents thinking it must be their fault because they just don't want to believe that sometimes, horrible things happen to children. Yes PP, something like this could happen to your child. Acting like an anonymous a**hole on the internet won't prevent it.

WTF. This is what comes to mind? They're on vacation~maybe his sleep was off.

Exactly. Maybe they flew in from a different time zone. Maybe he took a nap earlier and is wired. Maybe they are bending the bedtime rules because it's Disney.

The fact is, I bet a lot (most people) do not assume there are alligators in the water. Disney has a reputation as being safe and I would think there wouldn't be alligators in a man made lake near a family friendly luxury hotel. I wonder if Disney has any signs up about gators and if any measures have been taken to remove the gators?

I put absolutely no blame on the parents, but I happen to be one of those people who DO ASSUME, once you pass South of the Border and on into North Carolina on down, that if there is water, THERE WILL BE ALLIGATORS. Every retention pond I see, every puddle in the damn street. My in-laws live in FLA and they are so sick of hearing me say it everytime I see water, "there are alligators in there".
