Did anyone get more than $30K in merit aid at private college?

Oh get off your high horse! I'm not PP, but would be thrilled if my kid got free tuition than if he got into Harvard and we had to shell out $60,000/year for the privilege. Four years of education is NOT the end game.

Alabama is too far for my kid, but if it were an option for him, he'd apply!! Free college is great! Wish we'd get that deal!

Accept for high achieving AA students. because of eir location the numbers of Black students applying is down. My AA kid did not apply, but he was recruited and offered significant merit aid when he visited.

My grandson won a merit Hammond Scholarship from U of Miami worth about $40,000 per year for four years. he also got admitted to several top schools including an ivy with no aid. He is going to visit and spend the night at his three top choices including the U before he decides.

How did your child like Alabama? My kid can go for free, too, but I don't know much about it. My gut says he'd be a fish out of water there. We are Jewish so not sure if there are many Jews there.

I graduated a while ago, but got the equivalent of that much merit aid in today's dollars at Beloit College, which has a good theater program. They have a 'Presidential Scholars' program which is their most generous scholarship.
